Add a 《blank》to your action bar

By balindamood, in X-Wing Rules Questions

When an upgrade card says add an action to your action bar, such as barrel roll with Vectored Thrusters or Boost with Engine Upgrade, and I have a ship that already has that action, does that mean I can perform that action twice? This is similar to Expert Handling if you have a barrel roll already, but different that Sabine and adding a bomb icon to your upgrade bar.

I am not sure this is all that useful, other than doing a double-boost with PTL could be nice. Just curious.

No.

You can never do a given action more than once in a round, no matter the source.

if you already have the thing in your bar, there is absolutely no benefit to taking the upgrade.

Doubling up on an Action does no good. As mentioned, if you already have those action options the adding an upgrade that adds that option to your Action bar is just giving points away.

I'll mention that there is a difference in thing. Having an upgrade that costs an Action to use and which allows a Barrel Roll is not the same has having an upgrade that puts Barrel Roll on your action bar. Part of the time this distinction may be lost but something like PtL requires the second Action to be one that is on your action bar which would include actions placed there by upgrades while Experimental Interface allow you to take a second Action that is on an upgrade card.

If you look at your A-Wing you could gain BR abilities via either Vectored Thruster or via Expert Handling. If you have PtL you could Boost and then BR if given it via VT but you could NOT activate EH to BR via that upgrade's Action. If you had EI and boosted you would be able to trigger EH and use it to BR but you could NOT utilize the BR gained via VT even assuming you could add it.

No double actions ever.

You can get multiple tokens but not through doing the same action twice.

To elaborate, since the first post suggested otherwise.

If you have expert handling you still cannot barrel roll twice. If you use your action for a normal barrel roll, then somehow gain an additional action and perform expert handling the BR from EH will not happen (I'll have to double check the wording to see if the rest of the card can happen though).

When a card requires an action to activate and then instructs you to perform an additional "free" action, as EH does, all the word "free" means is that the additional action does not use up your one action for the round (although frequently the action to activate the card does).

The FAQ actually seems to include the entire text as the Expert Handling action.

A ship can only perform the same action once per round. A ship equipped with Expert Handling cannot perform a barrel roll and use the Expert Handling action in the same round.
If a ship attempts to perform an Expert Handling action, but cannot perform a barrel roll, the ship may perform a different action instead.
It seems that if the barrel roll isn't possible for whatever reason, then the rest cannot happen.

Yeah, I didn't have the card or faq in front of me to check. Taken in a vacuum there could certainly be a rationale for the rest of EH to work, but it seems that it doesn't.

The important thing is pointing out that EH does NOT let one perform a second barrel roll in a single round.

i kinda wish this was a thing though. VT if you have Barrelroll already for a 2range barrelroll or EU if you have boost for a 2speed boost.
