Making Money?

By Prometheus878, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Hello you beautiful people!

I have a question. Edge of the Empire is all about trying to make money, and in Age of Rebellion it's safe to assume that the Rebellion itself provides some kind of funding.

But how do Force and Destiny characters make money? Not just a trickle from selling the odd thing, like an actual stream of money so they can buy things (like parts for their lightsabers).

Is there a good set amount to give players per session, like 100 credits or something? With the assumption that they're doing something to make that money (like hauling cargo or using the mechanics skill to work odd jobs).

Well, they make money the same way as they would if they were characters in EotE. Bounties, odd jobs, etc

Stealing lots and lots of stealing.

Also Gambling once you hit fine manipulation with Move.

Then there is the magic show...

Lets not forget Mind ****** people into just giving you money. (Wealthy Imperials and Criminals are great for this)

Trading goods.

Killing drug dealers and taking the money...

There's also a thematic shift. I think there's more of an expectation that Force users, especially those hewing closely to good moralities, will be living fairly ascetic lives subsisting on alms and whatever the land can provide. For them, credits are a secondary concern: they'll worry about them when it becomes an issue, but for the most part they seek to do good for good's sake rather than a reward.

Much Conflict I sense in you...

Possibly, but there's nothing saying you can't ask for reasonable payments for services you provide. Wandering do-gooders can still make a buck, they just shouldn't exploit tragedy to get rich.

"It belongs in a museum!!!"

My current campaign kicked off with the PCs (all but one were Force-sensitive) being employees of a small independent archaeological research company (Errant Ventures Incorporated) that were hired to do investigations of various historical sights by interested third parties. That EVInc was a sort-subsidiary company of Flying Bantha Shipping Industries (thank you, DarthGM) was another means to provide the group with both plot hooks and steady paychecks.

Sadly, events during Lessons of the Past wound up taking quite the left turn, so the PCs are now on their own and need to figure out how they're going to survive when they're on the Empire's radar as Force users, with an ISB Agent having taken a personal interest in them, and the group's most recent actions drawing the attention of an Imperial Inquisitor.

In the F&D game that I am paying in, we currently are do a quick smuggling run (though it went sideways) to get about 2500 credits per player. The GM is also not really making us pay for incidentals (food, lodging, fuel, docking fees ect.)

In my F&D campaingn my players gain money on serveral ways:

1. "Go find yourself a job!" - that way they ended up as mechanic, salvagers, bodyguards (for Tyberzahn), hunters, medical assistance, smugglers, and so on.

2. "Shiny, shiny... it will sell well!" - stumbling across something valueable during exploring an tempel, emperial base, pirates' hideout like: some golden cups of any goddess, Rancor Bones (as trophy for filthy rich guys that want to brag about a gloriuos hunt...without ever leaving the safty of theire home), plans on some secret ship/ base / super weapon the rebels well pay good money for.

3. "That was the best invest ever!" - they have a own base that will give them some money (once in a while) once they brought in the right people to run it while they are all around the galaxy.
