The whole idea of moving the invitational out of the event misses the point - it was all about making it part of this huge festival with a million amazing SW things going on in each direction.
I thought one of the goals of the system open series was getting the community more involved (more spread out events, the whole voting). Not streaming the final event is the opposite of that.
Don't get me wrong, it's not a huge deal, but personally had I known they wouldn't stream the Invitational I wouldn't have bothered to vote in the ship polls. I voted for ships that I wanted to SEE played by top players.

Print it, frame it, that picture is certainly worth the memories. And for me, far more interesting than any stream.

They could have created DOZENS more of these moments had they put EPIC ships on the table, put the players in demo shirts, had official photographers and marketing people there.
This photo was a complete accident, and FFG would have not have it at all had not rabid X-Wing fans not bothered to take it to send to other rabid X-Wing fans, starved for lack of information on their favorite fame being played by their expert peers.
This event was planned and hyped as something different than it turned out to be, thousands and thousands of dollars were spent by marketing and our time as fans was put into following something that turned out to be something different than was intended.
Super competitive X-Wing games, that WE as fans would be involved in staging, were what was promised to the fans.
And the fans themselves ended up being the only half-way decent source of news about the whole thing.
Events like this is what marketing teams are hired to DO! They LIVE for this stuff. The only excuse for them not to be at this event promoting/documenting/hyping it was if they were literally pulled off of this project for some reason (maybe someone got sick? Maybe their plane was delayed? Maybe something else happened?).
I have a feeling the reason for the lack of coverage will come out eventually. The players themselves may even provide the answer.
