Hey everyone, Ryan here from the Mynock Squadron Podcast. I wanted to give a resounding THANK YOU to this community and to everyone who has supported us. In my attempt to give something back I've decided to make a mat I've photoshopped available to the public. So here it is in all its glory, STARKILLER BASE!

Here are a bunch of us playing Heroes of the Aturi Cluster on it.

STEPS FOR OBTAINING THE MAT

1. Download the high quality file HERE
2. To order I recommend Inked Gaming (It's what I used [no I'm not being paid to promote them]) and click on "Custom 36" x 36" Wargaming Mat " (I've linked it for you)
3. Upload the image you just downloaded. It's already set to the correct proportions and resolution.
4. Pay (I'm sorry I can't make it TOTALLY free for you)
5. Wait
6. PLAY!

If you're one who likes to save money, Inked Gaming does sales pretty often. I got mine 45% off on a Memorial Day sale, so it basically cost the same as a normal FFG mat. Also, if you're concerned about quality, don't be. Inked Gaming mats are made of really good rubber and have SQUARE EDGES. I was very happy with the finished product they sent me.

If any of you are curious on how I made the mat, I composited a ton of different elements together. Things from clouds, to high res images of Mars, and stills from the movie. Here are a few images of how it looks with various layers turned on and off (obviously there are a ton more lol)

Honestly, the sun is there because that corner edge of the planet looks like ass and I couldn't figure out a good way to make it look better with the elements I had. Thus GIANT SUN FOR EVERYONE!

So, it's just another Death Star mat?

I said earlier, that if you see it without the flare the edge of the planet doesn't look quite right. I couldn't figure out the correct angle/geometry to make it look good with the assets I had. It doesn't show it but I had to do ALOT of fudging and cheating to make some of this stuff look good. I couldn't just steal movie still because the quality wasn't high enough. Also, the front of the planet and the areas where the death beam come out look like light is being diffused in front of them. So, without the sun or some kind of light source Starkiller Base just doesn't look quite right. I wish I could've done without the huge flare, but I'm just not a good enough artist to do it. I'm mainly just a 2D compositor (that's a huge part of my day job [After Effects FTW]). I take a whole bunch of existing elements and stitch them together until they look kind of real.
