Do Destroyer Droids appear in any of the other books? I have an idea for something terrible, akin to the fight against M1-4X, in the Trooper story of SWTOR, and he's a bit like a Droideka. Do they, as NPCs, have "permanent" shields? Could a Droid PC get a power system upgrade, or something, to extend the shield's operating duration? I actually sort of like that it doesn't just "run", all the time, from a player perspective, but would worry about having it work for an NPC, one way, and then look a bit less cool when the PC shirt drops the run time considerably, for "balance" purposes. Thanks much.
Shield Duration?
I don't believe Destroyer Droids have been statted out anywhere so far, at least not that I can remember.
Shields would probably work like they do for regular characters, adding setback dice equal to Defence rating. They probably go down when the Droideka is in "wheel" mode and come up again when they unfold.
There's no reason why you can't give the character a special shield that only runs for so many rounds before being shut down. Just invent a technical thingie that has that effect, and Bob's your uncle.

5/3/1/1/1/1
Soak 8, Wound 18, Defenses 0/0
Skills: Gunnery 2, Perc 3, Resilience 3
Talents: None
Abilities: Droid, Fire Sweep (as an action a droideka can make a Hard Gunnery check to inflict one hit that deals base damage with its built in twin heavy blasters on up to two targets within medium range, plus one additional target per [Advantage] on the check; it can only hit each target once this way), Shield Projector (maneuver to activate or deactivate; while active, gains defense 2 and upgrades the difficulty of all combat attacks targeting the droideka once, but droideka cannot use the Move maneuver).
Equipment: Two built in twin droideka heavy blasters (Gunnery; damage 12; Crit 3; Range Long; Auto fire, Linked, Pierce 1, Vicious 1), Stomping mechanical leg (Brawl; Damage 5; Crit 5; Range Engaged; Knockdown 1).
I believe there's a Personal Shield generator in the Armour section of the edge CRB.
Edited by SirSprinklesYeah, there is, but it has the side note of a rather limited duration, and then it needs to be recharged. This is fair, when a PC has it, but seems weird, and book-keepingly irritating, for NPCs, until the players wonder why the droideka has "permanent shields" but then you don't. It's sort of like early Warhammer 40,000 stuff; the Space Marine equivalent power armor has a limited battery life, and then you are trapped in a tomb, if it runs out of juice, but then you see Space Marines running around in it for weeks, or more, and people wondered how even the Space Marines did their greatest stunts with a five hour time limit. The answer was they had better generators, on their armor, but then players wanted to have access to these, when they were playing Inquisitors who can order anything, or some such. For PCs, it was a balance thing, and I was wondering if it was here, too. If they can't move, I'd say that is a pretty decent balance, even being Destroyers (semi-mobile turrets).
Thank you for the info; haven't grabbed as many of the extra books, from these lines, yet.
From what I can tell, this game is almost founded on the idea that NPCs and PCs play by different rules. And at least in the Star Wars universe it kinda makes sense. The PC's shield is one you can pick up in a store, the Droideka's shield is specially crafted by the military for that droid. I'd be shocked if it didn't use a different rule set.
If PC's have a problem with it they can try to salvage one from a Droideka and spend some time and money modifying it to work in their armor or on one of their droids instead. Alternatively I could see an inventor or such modifying the butt off of a standard one until it was much better itself.
But yea, this was a case of me finding a pdf after someone in another thread mentioned the Droideka and several other bits of clone war stuff was in that book. I don't care about the content of the book itself since it's a FaD book, just the Droideka lol. One thing I truly hate about this product is the lack of Bestiary or Monster Manual, you're expected to buy all kinds of books just for one or two things each. The business model works on some people, and others just refuse.

The Shield gen in EotE does say they last about 10 mins, but the game mechanics handle this the same way it handles everything else. With a Despair. Just as you don't count blaster shots to decide when you ammo runs out, or individual power packs when you reload, the duration of the shield isn't tracked in detail, because it really doesn't matter in much the same way the space marine's powered armor's actual power pack duration doesn't matter (and gets in the way) when you start trying to tell a story. So the shield is on in combat, and off when not in combat to conserve power. Maybe it even pulses rapidly when it is on since the odds of a penetration would be low compared to the power saved.
As to why the difference in the Destroyer's and the Personal one is different, there's an explanation right there in the text. A more serious shield gen would also irradiate the user. The destroyer can carry a power unit that's shielded enough not to cook a nearby organic, but the droid itself can have it's innards fried a bit because it's a droid.
