Vineheart's Paint Thread

By Vineheart01, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

So i finally broke down and started repainting my imps. I have a fair bit of experience in painting 40k minis but ive never painted spaceships, and i lack an airbrush or any "tricks" to do the fancy stuff.

Basically im just trying to make my imps look different than others. Since i like purple and ive seen other purple imps that look good i gave it a shot. Heres a TIE Fighter i tested it on. I apologize for lack of a lightbox for pictures since i am strapped for space lol.

I attempted to make some of the panels a different color (the green) but i felt that looked like ass so i removed it lol.

Curious what others think. I keep finding myself wanting to add more detail but im also bugged by a nagging feeling that im just "coloring" the ship lol.

I think I know what you mean, I tend to feel the same when I look at some of the artworks on display...but often make the mistake of doing 'just a bit extra'...and then ruining things and starting again

...just have to keep reminding myself that often 'less is more' ;)

In the other thread you mentioned you weren't sure about the green. It might work better with a colour that combines more effectively with the purple. Maybe buff/sand or cyan? The black wing panels brings down the purple a bit so a splash of something bright might be what you need to bring it back up again.

Good stuff! Hope to see more pics in the future.

Might be a good idea.

Its the same scheme i use on my Tau only without the white bits, and now that you mention it needs a pop color i realize thats what the white was on my tau lol. I wanted to leave that off because 1) i HATE WHITE dug that hole with my tau as it is im not making any other model with primary white colors lol and 2) i felt it would be out of place on a dark ship that is Imperial.

Yellow or Gold is usually a great contrast to purple. Dont feel like using gold because i want to avoid a shiny look so i'll try some Averland Sunset with a really bright yellow highlight.

Started with the yellow, not feeling it. So i did a half n half to compare side by side. Tbh not feeling either lol. Maybe a neon green...it might be because i already did purple/green so im used to looking at that as to why i cant find another color combo that looks good lol

Also i didnt rewash it thats why the screen looks a little odd. Had a little yellow dab the center so i spotfixed it for now lol

EDIT:

Yeah, went back to the green only i made the neon green a lot more noticable. I basically didnt even do anything last time lol. Also added green on the inner parts of the solar panels (eesh that was annoying lol).

Looks pretty good now to me.

A gray would work as well in place of the green, or a lighter shade of purple too. A good place to look for color reference for the imperial ships are high rises or other large corporate type buildings. They tend to be on the "cooler" side of the color spectrum.

Keep up the good work and keep posting!

Vineheart, you have anything new to show us?

Nah i really havnt been able to find the time and its really hard to be creative/artistic when youre in a sour mood.

I started painting them because i had time. Ironic isnt it lol.
