Shadows and Dust OOC

By Prophyt, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

The 1760 is a cool ship. Not good for any sort of space combat (Armor 1, hardly any shields, 17 HT) but very fast, maneuverable and looks cool. Will be a bit cramped (no private quarters!) but that is fine.

Anyone have a better set of floorplans than these? http://www.deviantart.com/art/YT-1760-341382367

Link is broken. It looks like there are a few on GIS.

So with that layout, it appears it would need two engineers, since it looks like engineering is split by the embarkation ramp/airlock/passenger seating area

I'm happy with Mentor rules - Holocron form factor.

That's essentially what I was suggesting as well. No need to mix the rules for holocrons and mentors. Mentor rules but in the form of a holocron.

So with that layout, it appears it would need two engineers, since it looks like engineering is split by the embarkation ramp/airlock/passenger seating area

That seems like a goofy design. Maybe they're redundant systems and can be operated from either station.

It does seem strange not to have a passage between the two sections. In reality it will probably never matter during any sort of gameplay. If we ever get boarded it might, but probably not.

Note that the ship requires only two crew to operate, a pilot and a co-pilot. Just like the Falcon, one of the crew is assumed to run aft to take care of any immediate problems in engineering.

Ren-Do can operate as a mechanic if needed. He should be able to fix minor problems just fine even without skill with his Intellect 4.

Those floorplans don't work too well with the description of the ship, which is supposed to be able to house 2 crew and 8 passengers. The floorplans show only 3 beds for passengers, so unless they are triple bunks it doesn't really add up. But really, that doesn't really matter, a ship is really just a way to get from A to B, and occasionally have space encounters in. And since this one is made of slightly wet paper mache we won't survive too many of those.

It is a (potentially huge understatement warning) bit on the fragile side, you're right.

My thoughts on it are if we're faster and more nimble we may be able to avoid entanglements altogether.

However, that may not be realistic. So it may be prudent to consider either the YT-1000 or the Starlight , both of which were already mentioned. The Starlight would be my choice. It packs more of a punch damage-wise, has a higher armor rating, and a faster hyperdrive. It has one fewer hard point, but overall I think it's a better choice of the two.

Compared to the YT-1760 the Starlight is a bit slower and harder to handle, but it has better shields, armor and weaponry.

Plus there's more cargo space that can be converted to bunk space for the passengers.

And it looks effing cool.

I'm officially changing my vote from the 1760 to the Starlight.

I still think a Force ghost mentor is the best choice, but if we do go for a Holocron then I don't see any need to mess around with the rules - it's just a holocron-form mentor so far as I'm concerned.

I would say that there really isn't much need to argue over floor plans, as they'll only really become an issue if we are actually boarded. That's the beauty of this system - you only need to view things in the very loosest narrative term. I would say that if we do sell off our archaeological finds and make millions of credits then we should probably reinvest them (once you've dragged Xaramis out of the nearest bar that takes Republic credits) in up-gunning and up-armouring the ship, as otherwise we're very likely to come up against a combat scenario we simply can't run away from.

The description on the image states that the crew bunks are a double and the passengers are in two triples and a double. Not that it matters of course, but there is an explanation in there.

Finally, I would say that having had another look over the YT-1760's profile, I think a good name for our ship would be the 'Serenity'.

Agreed. As I said, ship is mostly a way to get between two places, and occasionally have a space encounter in. I think the 1760 is fine. It's fragile, but that just means we need to run away even faster. And possibly think about upgrading the weapons a bit. But mostly just remember to run away a lot.

I say let's not spend too much time on picking a ship, any one will do, really. If we ever fail to finish a mission because our ship has a hyperdrive that's too slow you can all yell at me, but really, we'll just move at the speed of plot as usual in Star Wars, I hope :D

Beyond my suggestions I have no opinion on vehicles. So whatever everyone else wants to go with, I'm fine with that.

As far as the IC thread, is it at a point to where we should be jumping in? Or are we still trying to establish everything first?

Good question. I have taken a stab at writing a first post for Ren-Do as he is waking up, to save time when the time comes. Obviously I've not posted it. The contents of parts of that post will of course depend on who's present when he wakes up, and what the situation is around the cryo-tube. Not to mention that until some of you modern-day people screw something up poor Ren-Do is frozen solid and can't really comment at all :D

Mwahaha. You probably shouldn't have said that.

Ah the GM's laugh. Never has humanity invented a more effective way of indicating oncoming doom...

Ah the GM's laugh. Never has humanity invented a more effective way of indicating oncoming doom...

Well, there is the smell of napalm in the morning ...

No, that indicates that doom has already been there, done that, and indeed been garbed in the appropriate clothing. It is a nice way to let everyone else know though.

I'm fine with whatever ship.

'Serenity' aka 'Fast and Fragile' :P

That Starlight is quite nice. I'm now concerned my character is not actually that good of a pilot, it's my wife's birthday today, but if there is more time for character tweaking I may look at what can be done to make him better at that while maintaining his navigator skills.

Happy birthday to your wife.

Speaking of significant others, I just spent 3 hours catching up with my ex...so,that was a thing @.@

I realize that the last 2-3 days of talk about the ship possibilities only represents like maybe an hour or so of real-time research and conversation, but MAN it feels like it's taking forever :D

Agreed. So since the ship is likely to blow up anyway, get stolen or we forget where we parked it, shall we just settle on the 1760 and move on?

Well, that's not likely to be the case. Besides, the ship is meant to be the group's "home" unless/until they manage to establish a base and locate smaller craft they can each pilot.

I jest, but I think we should pick one and move on :)

Yep, pick one and move on, let me crash it already!

I want to keep the Intelect 4 since it fits the Navigator so well, so I can't do anything but get a rank in Piloting Space to go with Rin's 2 Agility. Anything else would have to be a completely different species (Drall!) so I'm sticking with what I have until Dedication can make for a higher Agility.

Eh, the SW sheet says he has agility 3, that should be plenty. Tok is a bit better at piloting. I'm sort of guessing the best setup might be to have you piloting and him manning the gun in most cases. And if we need to flee and escape something, he could probably be better off trying to pilot.

Let's not over think things. These things have a tendency to work out just fine somehow, once the game is started.

Tok has agility 4 with a rank of space piloting, so he can handle the flying for a while. Being an ace pilot isn't the long term plan for him, so he'll step back from that once someone goes down that road.
