REBELS SEASON THREE TRAILER SPOILERRIFFIC!!!!

By Tailsgod, in X-Wing

Excited for this, but Thrawn will be ruined. The Rebels have to beat him because theyre the protagonists, but going by the books they really dont have the skill.

Darth Vader was the overarching villain of Season 2, and he was never beaten by the protagonists of Rebels.

I'm not sure where the worries about him being ruined come from. Maul, Vader, Tarkin, Ahsoka, Rex, etc. weren't ruined by the show. Most of the disappointment with Rebels comes from the original characters.

He could be the over arching villain who when he shows up wins every battle until the one in the last episode where the Rebels barely get a victory which causes the Emperor or the various Imperial governors or officers to use it as an excuse as to exile him to the unknown regions due to him being the rare alien in a mostly human run Empire. Doing that would allow them to use him later down the line, even potentially showing up in a sequel trilogy film or spin off series as a major villain.

It is also Thrawn. If anyone is worthy of the "Xanatos Gambit" trope, it is him.

Nice.

Seeing the YT-2400 was awesome.

Seeing Thrawn was awesome.

Seeing Wedge was awesome.

I need to find a way to watch Rebels!

Am I the only one who is sad that Wedge's backstory has been altered? His (now) Legends origin story of being orphaned and having his parents' murders ignored by the Empire, thus spurring him to join the Rebellion, was a fantastic way of illustrating ordinary beings sans superpowers rising up to make a difference.

Also, this is ripped straight out of Biggs' origin: joining the Imperial Naval Academy to escape the monotony of life on Tatooine. I find this especially odd since it is obliquely referenced in ANH when Luke protests staying on the moisture farm for another season. There's even a deleted scene of him and Biggs talking with Biggs gushing about life at the Academy. It's Biggs and Hobbie that then defect with their TIE squad to the Alliance after being forced to destroy a civilian craft. I get that they can't use Biggs because it happens too close to ANH and would become contemporaneous with Luke. So I can see the allure in rehashing this storyline. I'm just sad that it explicitly guts Wedges' story and implicitly guts Biggs' since it's not like they'd repeat the same plot. (So what about Biggs now? Is he going to be a college drop out, English major turned soldier?) I know such cut-and-pasting is inevitable with the Mouse taking things over but still. Le sigh.

As we know the Mouse already declared all non-movie as legend. That was expected, like a new head coach coming in with a new playbook and staff. It is flipping awesome they are paying homage to the legends by brining some into cannon. Ie: YT-2400, Thrawn... Then giving a small twist to origins of old cannon; i.e.: blade wing, Liea and Lando with the rebellion and now Wedge. So they are altering it, the point is they are making a back story for current fans to get into.

Holy crap, R22 was so outraged that he copy-pasted the same post into two threads. Yikes.

Ccwebb's on point though. This is way easier for fans to get into. The old backstories as we knew them don't exist- but I for one rather like the idea that Wedge is a defector.

Like.

That means The Empire's training is good and that they get a bunch of really good pilots. Not all great pilots started out as Rebels, and I really dig that.

Loved the new Trailer and seeing one of my favorite EU characters (Thrawn) coming back from the non-canon discard pile. Seeing Wedge and the 181st in action was pretty cool too.

I am hoping with the addition of Wedge and Tycho (if that is who the blonde pilot is), that it opens the gate for more pilots and characters from the X-Wing book series to be in Rebels, especially Corran Horn.

How cool would it be if the Rebels cast ended up in Corellia and ran into CorSec-era Corran and his then-partner Iella Wessiri?

Sooo...

Interceptors appear as early as a couple years before ANH? (Maybe they are prototypes)

Thrawn is Grand Admiral before the events of TIE fighter? (Maybe he got a temporary demotion?)

Hmmm...

Someone didn't get the memo a few years back.

Hmmm...

I don't even really like Rebels that much. I've watched every episode of course- it's Star Wars after all.

But the first thing we see the Empire do is twirl their mustaches and kick over a small merchant's stand. The Imperial Academy tells it's Troopers that teamwork is a weakness (not really the sort of psychology you want to instill in a unit that will serve together for years) and the Inquisitors being Sith (or evil Jedi) is a bit lame, removing the uniqueness of Vader a tad. I'd prefer the Inquisitors to be more like Super-Kallus.

But. There are some absolute crackers of episodes in there. The Honourable Ones is great; I loved Kallus' backstory. Even as a diehard Rebel fanboy, I love stories where, though the Empire is evil, not every Stormtrooper, officer or agent is a mustache-twirling, puppy kicking monster.

And the amount of fanservice Season three will bring just makes me so happy. Wedge, Tycho(?) Thrawn, YT-2400, Y-Wings that don't look stupid and Blood Stripe Interceptors!

Bring on Season 3!

So glad people are finally realizing that "Legends" doesn't mean "discarded". If people actually read the announcement about "Legends", you would see this coming already.

If it helps, the Inquisitors have been around for a while and were not introduced by the Rebels series. That doesn't say I agree with how Rebels handled it, or that I agree that I like the idea, but it's not a new idea.

Thrawn back in the universe is great though... Slowly weeding through the EU and returning items back to the universe has been an exciting period.

Then again... maybe Jaxxon will be back and we'll all scream in terror until our heads pop.

For something so popular that hasn't been brought over from legends yet, you'd think we could organize a more concerted effort to bring it to the attention of the story group:

"Dear LFL Story Group,

There is an item still sitting in Legends that deserves to be brought into canon. It exemplifies the spirit of Star Wars and would bring smiles to the faces of young and old. Please, bring back Lt. Kettch.

Sincerely,

A dedicated fan.

The team in Star Wars Aftermath is basically a Wraith Squadron knockoff anyway.

I hope Maul goes back to Tatooine and reclaims his Sith Infiltrator so we can use it in-game.

Palps has it in the OT era. Loans it out to a bounty hunter in Lando's comic series (which is one of the best marvel mini-series IMO).

What do you mean, TIE Fighter is the highest canon there is! It's the true story of Star Wars and it's real hero Thrawn.

GUNBOAT!

Feck the gunboat :P  <_<

Take a look at this video by Star Wars Explained on Youtube:

At the 1:99 mark, it is talking about Wedge and maybe even Tycho looking to leave the Empire.

It would be kind of funny if Thrawn mentions the possibility for cloning Fel at some point, just as a reference to the old Thrawn trilogy, though I feel that it would be something looked over. Then again...a generic Clone Soontier Fel with PS9 might be hilarious for us Imperial players.

Please no. Cloning was the worst part of all Zahn's books in which it appeared.

What? You don't want a Sooontier Fel?

Please no. Cloning was the worst part of all Zahn's books in which it appeared.

Really? I liked Timothy Zahn's portrayal of the Clone Wars FAR better than the prequels' version (though I admit the naming convention was a bit...odd).
