How does descent compare to Runebound?

By saxon1974, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I see 3rd edition of Runebound is getting pretty good reviews. For those who have both games how do they compare? It looks like Runebound is more of an overworld exploration game where descent is more of a dungeon crwal (or at least individual encounter maps).

Is Runebound less complex?

I have played descent so am considering Runebound as well.

Runebound= About local politics and governments in the world of Terrinoth. Basically what goes on in that matter of a few years. The ultimate evil of Terrinoth (Dragon Lord ) is encountered.

Battlelore= Focuses on Battles that take place in Terrinoth. Right now you can use Daqan, Uthuk and Waiquair factions.

Descent= Focused more on the adventures of the heroes in Terrinoth, usually in the Daqan territories. Though MoB and CtR is located on the Waiquair border.

I've nener played Runebound, but would be willing to try. I want to attempt Battlelore as well... it would be interesting to maybe incorporate that into one big storyline.

Hmm interesting. The description just says you adventure and have quests. I believe it said something about quests that are social challenges so.maybe that's the political part. Definitely think that could be fun.

Those games cannot be compared. They do are in the same universe, but that's all

Descent is some sort of Dungeon Crawler

Runebound is some sort map dweler

It would be like comparing Mad Max to Termintor only because they are science fiction movies ...

Descent is really a semi-cooperative 1v2-4 tactical miniatures game with an amazing coop campaign mode. The "adventuring" is pretty minimal and takes place between quests in the form of flavor text and "travel steps".

Runebound is closer to Talisman, in that it is a pure adventure game but much much better than Talisman as if offers lots of choices to the players.
