Epic Choice - Which Upgrade Would You Choose for GR75?

By LagJanson, in X-Wing

Assuming you've got Automated Protocols - what would you run a support ship to use?

A) Slicer Tools

B) Toryn Farr

C) Jamming/Duty Free

D) Ionization Reactor with intentions to ram?

E) Other?

There's really no wrong answer, assuming tactics with the tools are valid. Myself I'm trying to decide between options A and B. Slicer Tools will shutdown any PTL shenanigans within range 3, looking at you TIE Interceptors. Toryn Farr is very powerful, but limited to range 2.

Slicer and Jamming for me.

comm booster and Farr

Toryn, Bright Hope, maybe Tibanna+Engine Booster if you want to Farr hard.

Toryn. Toryn all day. She turns a ship that can't shoot into a massive priority target as her ability is so crippling to opposing ships.

She's especially vicious paired with multiple ships packing Opportunist, which is already a potent EPT in Epic since Huge ships can't focus or evade.

That's... A good point. I had never thought of using opportunist.

GR-75 Medium Transport (30)
Backup Shield Generator (3)
Shield Projector (4)
Tibanna Gas Supplies (4)
Bright Hope (5)

add Biggs with R4-D6 to the mix and use the transport to keep him alive longer using shield projector. if flow right you can shut down you opponents raider or corvette

with the reinforce giving you 2 evades for every attack, it becomes a annoying hard to kill support ship

Aw, dang. Cat's out of the bag. The squad I'm planning on bringing uses Opportunist, and it's wicked.

Anyway, you've heard me say it again, and again, but Toryn Farr is your upgrade of choice. The ONLY time you'll wish you had Slicer Tools is against hordes of TIE fighters. Even then, choosing just one or two to take tokens away from so that other ships can secure a kill makes a huge difference, and won't break the energy bank.

Having played Epic a lot, I find that slicer tools is the least useful card. It sounds good in theory, but when you run on fumes is useless.

As an absolute minimum, I would use:

Quantum Storm
Toryn Farr
Backup Shield Generator

The rest you can build it depending on what kind of support you want to give to your squad.

Quantum Storm is good, but I'm much happier facing down a Quantum Storm than a Bright Hope . That extra evade result makes the GR-75 a real pain to take down, and with Toryn Farr on board, I NEED to bring it down fast!

EDIT: This is all my opinion and experience, mind you. I don't want to sound like one of those tournament min-maxers, but for an Epic Dogfight tournament...yeah, Toryn + Bright Hope is just really good. Again, unless you anticipate a lot of fighters, in which case Quantum Storm gets really good by granting more energy, so more targets to take tokens from.

See, the only reason I thought of slicer tools was for those scum lists (looking at you Dengar) or PTL Interceptors/Awings. I've also seen a Ghost with Ezra last game where the player tried to run with stress... Never really got it rolling though as it got squished fast. I think slicer tools works best against inexperienced opponents who don't know what to expect. Now... If I can get my friend to lend me his transport and run two... One for jamming, one for slicing, yeah... That could be fun.

I want to run Farr though. I had horrible nightmares of running my missile Raider and having Farr remove the locks.

I am well acquainted with that nightmare. It's right up there with the one where it's the end of the semester and I realize there is a course on my schedule that I haven't attended the whole semester! [shudder]

If you are looking for ram then you will want cluster bombs from the Gozanti cruiser.

However my personal favorite which isn't official but good for scum epic players. ( I may be a bit biased here.)

I play a lot of epic, and tend to find that the GR75 is my favorite ship. Since it's become such a huge target at the FLGS for the sheer amount of rage it produces, I like to charge in with Bright Hope, Torynn Farr, and a pair of cluster bombs. Smash into the middle of an enemy formation and cause as much havoc as you can while your 'escort' does the heavy lifting/shooting.

An alternative that isn't bad, against Imp players especially, is loading up Duty Free with as much stress inducing nonsense as you can get. Dont really need slicer tools, since they're not so hot, but handing out stress to two ships at range 1-3 is great.

What if you put Sabine on it. Then, while enemy ships are buzzing around you, you drop a bomb on them! (Maniacal laughter)...

...(yet still more maniacal laughter)

I did this with a CR90 for the lulz, but she's still slightly better I find on an accompanying K-Wing.

Rage/Comms Booster x X is a ridiculous combo. Just saying.

Duty Free, Raymus Antillies, Frequency Jammer and Slicer Tools

Let the rage flow through you(r opponent)

I want to try this on a B-wing with connor net and extra munitions.

So how about this.

Nera Dantiels w/ B-wing E2, Ion Cannon, Extra Munitions, Ion Torpedoes, Sabren Wren and Conner Net. Is that enough Ion?

I like this setup:

GR-75 Medium Transport — GR-75 Medium Transport 30

Chewbacca 4

Engine Booster 3

Shield Projector 4

Bright Hope 5

Ship Total: 46

Can you use Ordnance Tubes?

Can you use Ordnance Tubes?

No, it doesn't have any hardpoints.

Technically you can still use Ordnance Tubes. Really, it would just be there to mess with your opponent though since the tubes wouldn't be connected to any launchers.
