Imperial Impound Lots?

By infmed, in Game Masters

One of the new players from my group is of Alderaanian noble descent. So for his first session I set it up so that the Sorosub 3000 Luxury yacht left to him by his now dead parents was impounded by the Empire with no reason given. I was just wondering if anyone had any good information or ideas as to where the Imperials would actually take the ship. For now the ship is on Ryloth, and I was toying with the notion of putting the coordinates for New Alderaan on the computer, so maybe the Empire might take it somewhere more secure to decrypt it? It's such a big galaxy I'm not sure which location would be best.

Have you got the Edge of the Empire Beginner Box set?

Reuse the maps from there and have his ship be located within the hangar used for Trax's ship so they'd have to get inside the Imperial Flight Control to first locate the ship and then deduce the best way to access the hangar and fly out with the ship with enough of a head start to escape Imperial pursuit if that helps?

I'd have had them move this aboard the Wheel so they have a reason to travel there and if you've watched the Lego Star Wars the Freemaker Adventures series they're based there.

Could use their version of a hangar and your players have to sneak inside and find a way to liberate the ship and escape with it, but without any extra details like who the rest of your group are playing, whats their obligation and motivation since they could be involved with this if your game can cope with the extra details involved?

So is this ship the group's ship or just the reason that player is involed with the other PCs?

I actually do have the Empire box set, and I also have the book with The Wheel in it, so it's always a possibility. But would there be a good lore based reason for the Empire moving his ship to the wheel (half way across the galaxy) as opposed to a purely Imperial location? I do love The Wheel though, so I am looking forward to eventually getting them there.

Besides the Sentinel Shadow noble who wants his ship back, the rest of the group consists of:

An old B1 battle droid that gained sentience at the battle of Naboo when the rest of the droids were shut down.

A rodian pilot who fancies himself a musician (but he's terrible), and has declared his rival as one of the Bith that played in the mos eisley cantina.

A Nikto scout and former slave.

A human ambassador.

A selonian Guardian who only fights with his fists, standard good guy paladin do no wrong type.

As for his ship, it's pretty much just the reason for him being involved with the other PCs since he joined a session late. Though he's very determined for it to be his ship again.

Where they take the ship is dependent (IMHO) on a few factors. First, how well controlled is the world. On an industrialized and Imperial controlled world, they're likely to have secure ship storage facilities like the auto-impound lots in cities. On a wilderness world, they'll probably have it parked somewhere on their base. If they have no presence on the world, they'll probably park it in orbit (or store it at a station if they have one in orbit for some reason).

The second factor is how important the ship is (from their perspective). If there's some specific reason they took it (beyond repossession or seizure in a raid or somesuch), they'll likely transfer it to the control of the investigating authority and schedule it for transfer to that location, either ASAP for truly important and burning inquiries, or with a normal supply run for standard affairs.

The third factor is the "wow" factor. If it's a really nice ship, it's likely that the local Imperial poo-bah is going to take an interest in it and appropriate it for their own personal amusement. In that case, it would likely be transferred and stored alongside the other objects d'arte the official had managed to acquire.

I'm assuming this is set after ANH so Alderaan is gone and maybe unknown to your player the Empire believes there's something important aboard.

You know how some people are about secrets, well worse with the Empire and they think there's something aboard that PC's ship relating to Bail Organa and anything that might help them deal with his rebellious daughter is enough to get that ship impounded and then moved as it catches the eye of a Moff who fancies owning that ship...

Maybe that "secret" is just an Alderaanian Cryodex, (check out the Scoundrels book for details on that or Wookiepedia not sure if that's still canon mind you!) which looks like a modified datapad but the Empire doesn't know about it the question is does your player?

Do whatever best fits your story. I'm sure there's an Imperial garrison on Ryloth and I can't see a story reason why the Imperials would need to take the ship to a special facility just to break into the computer. Even in 1970s-tech inspired Star Wars world, the equipment a slicer would need would probably fit onto a rolling cart.

If it was me, I would find a stock hexagonal Imperial garrison base blueprint from one of the old West End Games supplements and stick the ship on a landing pad.
