Correlian Conflict

By DabDarklighter, in Star Wars: Armada

Wonder how close this is to my own set of campaign rules...

2000 points a side sounds extreme. Still, I love this concept. Definitely going to make it easier to get people together for a weekly thing. You know, except for that 2000 Point thing.

It certainly would put the Armada into Armada.

Plus, we don't know at this point what the points are of the stuff that's included in the game itself... Being that it might add point advantages-and-disadvantages to bulk up a force...

I'm excited. I just wish I knew a timeframe to I could budget my excitement.

Do I need to create another 'Bets Are On' thread? My guess is that we have 9 months to wait for this. Then again, it's not going to really have anything in the way of models. My supposition is that the models are what take the time to produce.

Wondring if the new fighter cards are for the campaign only or if they could be used in tourneys etc

Wargames are improved so much by campaign play.

Giving context to a battle, having a win or loss matter in a larger arena, marshaling resources; this is what creates truly rich game experiences.

So excited!

admittedly, I am curious about this, but I will have to have players.

I wish I knew the budget so I could put my excitement in check.

You can if you want, mate. Although beyond responding with comical style to Vyke's points thread cost, I stay outside of the speculation, and just let it ride until it arrives :)

I have only a couple of opponents around here, but I know that one of them will really be invigorated by this. He is my main teammate for Heroes of the Aturi Cluster too. I really can't wait to see what this is going to include. Awesome!

Wonder how close this is to my own set of campaign rules...

Can we see your campaign rules please???? Or are they posted at kdyards.com? Am working on a small solo campaign of my own.

Yessir. The general rules brain-dump is there, as well as the Campaign Event cards that I made (there's room for more, but I haven't gotten that far). The only thing that is really missing is the map, but you can totally use any node-based map you want (at least, I had a node-based map in mind when I made it)

What are the odds of getting an article about this today? I cannot believe they dropped something like this with no information. My Hype levels are off the chart!

0%

We likely won't get an article off it until end of Celebration, or even GenCon.

Incredibly excited by this. Exactly up my alley.

Assuming that this photo is legit, and assuming that it is a fair representation of the box's contents...

If this set included models, we'd see them prominently displayed here. So it's new cards and story content. Coolness, I'm happy with that.

There's two obstacle tokens to the left: a station and an asteroid field. I'd guess there's a mission that takes place in an asteroid belt and they wanted to fill the board with four asteroid fields. And another mission that features two opposing stations.

There's a cardboard squadron dial to the right, next to a new color of die, green. Probably some kind of hero squadron mechanic.

So 2000 points, I can finally justify my 2 ISDs, 4 VSDs, 4 Glads, six raiders, 2 MC80s 4 assault frigates, 5 nebs, 4 mc30s, 5 vets and 9 varied fighter packs......

In fact I can justify picking up another job lot or two of stuff......

Yippy

this looks amazing dont want to get to excited but this could change the way we play this game

I am genuinely excited about this expansion set.

I'll definitely buy and definitely want to try it.

The community has been clamoring for new squadron cards and titles. If that is the only way it expands the generic game, it will totally be worth it in a huge way!

Yup..................welcome to actually playing the game on a big map, better than the competitions. Now I have a real reason to use my 38" Executor SSD, and

my Death Squadron ships :)

this also might be how they fit in epic level ships

now I'm thinking that this is going to suck. I only get to play once in awhile, so now am I going to have to commit to a campaign? suppose I'm Imperials for the campagn but want to play rebels next week? I can't because the campaign takes 4 months

this also might be how they fit in epic level ships

I'm torn on this thought. Part of me thinks I cannot afford Epic ships.

The other part of me thinks "SUPER STAR DESTROYERS ARE AMAZING!!!!!!"

I have only one question: WHICH Corellian Conflict? :D
The Centrepoint Party crisis? The star tof the Second GCW? Or the Pre-Death Star insurgence? :)

On one hand, I'm definitely interested. On the other, if the new squadrons and objectives and tokens aren't usable in a regular game I'm concerned I'll get an X-Wing style "bag of cardboard I can't use anywhere." And I don't have enough players to really do a long campaign.

/u/swiftfooted over on reddit was in the crowd for this presentation. He says he does not play Armada so a lot of it went over his head but this is what he remembers:

Not much more than has already been said that I can remember, but I'll regurgitate what I can:

  • A recent piece of SW artwork which people may have seen (a new female fighter pilot on an imperial hangar bay if I remember correctly) is linked to this
  • 2-6 players (1-3 for each side)
  • Each player will put together a fleet (a 2 player campaign would require multiple fleets on each side)
  • Sounded like a decently-long campaign (talked about months, I'm assuming on the basis of a weekly game)
  • Most campaigns end in a big climactic battle (example of a 2000pt battle above was his example from a recent one, but I got the sense not all would require that much)
  • New objectives for those who play competitively
  • Coming late this year

I realise the photos aren't great quality, so for the avoidance of doubt my recollection is that the map looked like a board (rather than a piece of paper), and the sheet in the back looked like a token punch-out.

Hmmmmm, should I continue developing my campaign or just wait? Admittedly, I haven't gotten very far past brainstorming. Hmmmm.

Yeah, me too! I've always dreamed about it as far back as 'Mighty Empires' for Warhammer, but never actually did a campaign. Do you have experience with campaigns?

I'm really curious how they're going to balance the progression so that victories are not meaningless (endless trench warfare), but also don't become determinative of the eventual outcome. I'm guessing that it's going to be a tree campaign, rather than a now-you-have-these-added-resources-because-you've-conquered-that-planet campaign.

Ah, please give that Bothan a (posthumous) medal! (I hope the rebels reward Bothans better than they reward Wookiees.)
