The new shuttle is actually fueled on the tears of Star Wars fanatics.
I lost my eyes by looking at TFA designs and my new bionic eyes don't have the "Tears" feature ![]()

Not nearly as down swept as this new ship.
And at least the Harrier's wings are aerodynamic/ windswept
Those designs just look really really lazy.
I wonder if the TIE striker model is a kitbash from a TIE fighter, TIE bomber, and TIE interceptor model kit. They wouldn't actually need a filming prop for Rogue One, so this model would have been made for promotional purposes, not for the actual film. That might explain why it appears that a TIE fighter cockpit was literally sliced in half, dividing the top hatch in two (leaving the pilot with no obvious means of ingress). It also appears that the wings are drooping a bit - maybe those lights are pretty hot?

Wings don't need to be windswept to work: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forward-swept_wing

Sure, but they are swept, in both our examples, this shuttle thing has no swept wings at all, they are just drooping down to the ground at 45 degrees angle, lol, no forward or backward sweep at all ![]()

Shuttle kinda makes me think of Gonk for some reason.

I may be WAY off base, but it looks like this thing has 2 Lambda engines at off set angles at the rear of the fuselage. If that's right then this this is MASSIVE... I know that they named it Krennic's shuttle, but it might be an assault shuttle that he used.
Given that it looks somewhat like Lambda mixed with an AT-AT barge that I vaguely recall seeing somewhere, maybe he commandeers a strike unit of Deathtroopers with vehicle support?
Those designs just look really really lazy.
I love how people are calling the TIE Striker lazy and yet would be crying tears of joy if the TIE Defender was put on-screen.
It's an Imperial fighter, it's going to look like a TIE. It's actually one of the more unique-looking TIE variants from the movies too.

Except they only had four TIE Designs from the movies, six if you count the two re-hashes from TFA. I've seen better WIPs from the XvW/XWA modding designers than this. It's beyond lazy, it's hilariously fitting for that b-rated plot they chose to replace the Dark forces campaign.

When we're talking about the actual movies and not fan-mods for a nearly 20 year old game, these look perfectly fine and in-style with the Empire. Hell, when talking about the old EU, most Imperial fighters with only a few exceptions are similar "beyond lazy" TIE variants.
Explain to me why the Defender or Avenger are more original-looking ships than the Striker. Because they came from a game you enjoyed instead of a movie you haven't seen?

It's lazy because of how the TIE ball was simply cut in half and they added a cylinder between the two parts, leaving the hatch with half part in each edge.

You do remember stealing the Deathstar plans was merely the throwaway demo-mission of Dark Forces?
It does look like they have done that, but because they deliberately only used parts from 70's model kits deliberately to reproduce the feel of the original ships it may have been the best way to get the elongated hull they wanted.
It's not exactly lazy to buy kits, scan then all in to a computer and only use those parts to build a ship model. That's a lot of effort to deliberately replicate the design process of the OT to try and keep it feeling authentic.
Let me know when they hit wave 10.
Ahhhh man, can't unsee the sliced-in-half TIE ball... seriously, would've recycled a Bomber hull first... and I kinda wish the solar panels were set a scooch farther away from the hull.
Staying away from the shuttle discussion.
EDIT: Then again, given the flimsy looking nature of the 'wings' on this model, perhaps this was a quicky throw-together for the event....
....deluded optimism at it's finest.
Edited by juxstapoI dunno, I like the shuttle. If the Lambda was supposed to be the standard transport of the Imperial Navy, this delta shuttle is for the elite class. The long wings are probably precursors to Kylo Ren's shuttle type, and I don't mind the smaller body and trunciated profile. I happen to like wings as an aesthetic feature, so I don't mind them here. What I DO mind is that little afterthought wing on the top...
This is the kind of shuttle Palpatine would be flying around in, not the souped-up cloaking Lambda we were all told he had in Legends. Wouldn't be surprised if future sources claimed this Delta came with a cloaking device as standard equipment.
The TIE Striker seems to me like a TIE Fighter redesigned specifically for atmospheric use. Sure, TIEs can do that now, but none of them are optimized for that kind of work. The TIE Striker is. Designed for planetary subjugation but with star-flight capability to continue the pursuit of escaping ships star-side. The reason it isn't everywhere is because, desperate to cut costs, the Empire produce and deploy them only for planetary garrisons. Everyone else star-side gets TIE Fighters, which are klunky and un-elegant in atmosphere.
The new shuttle might be more like a longer range shuttle than one carried by capital ships. A more powerful shuttle would probably be bigger.
I like the TIE. It's a fighter. I like it.
The shuttle looks a lot like the model Luke is playing with during the the early bit of Episode IV while the droids are getting cleaned up. The fuselage is different. But the wing and vertical stab layout is very similar. That being said, I think it looks silly. Enormous wings when anti-grav is available just seems silly. Massively silly.

Wow you're right it does look like someone snipped the top off of a T-16 Skyhopper
Yeah the T-16 looks ridiculous too.
They clearly had loads of air fixes with wings to use when making these models.

They are using practical models for the movie, as they did with TFA. It's why the ships actually look good, and the actors can actually interact with them. The Michael Bay "everything on greenscreen" approach is far less prevalent here. Even just for mapping, they would have had several scales of models like this one, although I would put my sexy-ass car on this not being a shooting model of any description.

More prevalent than where, I'm curious?
TFA had two full scale X-wing models to put in the background and one cockpit on a hinge. Zero complete TIEs.
I assure you, there won't be a single practical TIE Striker or Ugly As H* Shuttle, be it small or full scale, in the movie.
The majority of the ships are built out physically before being remodelled and mapped into any CGI. There aren't many full-scale models, because only a couple are needed for interaction, and because they're bloody huge (not to mention a time consuming build...). Shooting models, however, are very common. They'd be more around the size of 4ft long... ish, but they vary.
Granted, the actual dogfighting scenes in TFA were totally CGI (and noticeably so...), but there are always shooting models of the ships. That's as distinct from the Michael Bay method of shooting the whole movie in front of a greenscreen, and adding everything in post. The are a hell of a lot of practical effects in TFA compared to a lot of other releases over the last few years.

The bread effect is so great! Such a tiny detail that no one would have minded being CG, but it makes the scene that much more believable.
