Imp Veterans is half a dud

By Darth evil, in X-Wing

The difference between Tommy and Quizzy is that the later is very reliable and a late game monster

Bren, despite infinite crack, blows out early and can just get Merced by any ship shooting at him due to bomber lack of shields

So he requires more effort to use effectively

Which is all that is meant when people say Quizzy is superior . It's not like thomax is fels wrath or anything hes just more difficult to use effectively

Deathfire isnt bad at 23 points with Conner Net and Extra Munitions on him if you like to drop bombs and control movement. Tomax Bren with concussion missles and Extra Munitions with guidance chips and crackshot can be fun at 31 points as well.

would you take Tomax at 30 over the Inquisitor at 31?

For 31 points the inquisitor is one of the best ships in the whole game.
Maybe you could fit something between "not better than the inquisitor" and "not even playable, the ship still stinks"...

Exactly. I love all the discussions that go something like "If it isn't the best ship in the game, it's TOTALLY UNPLAYABLE!" And I especially love it when they make those comparisons with unique pilots. At 31 points, Tomax with crack shot, extra munitions and chips is pretty frightening. It's not fun looking down the barrel of very probably 4 hit roll when you know you are going to have one of your evades negated. Against a 2 Agility ship, that's a solid chance of taking 4 damage. And since this is a game of *gasp* strategy, you can use that to draw attention away from other ships in your squad.

But... Minmaxing... Arcdodging... Aces... etc.

What do you mean there are lists out there that aren't some combination of the Inquisitor, Soontir Fel and Palpatine? Everyone knows if it's not won at least 7 tournaments then it's absolutely worthless.

Apparently PGS isn't around to predictably say "If it doesn't make Palp Aces unplayable, FFG has failed."

i literally never use the inquis. I hate that guy. People act like hes some unkillable sniper that dishes out insane damage. Yeah, at Range3 is pretty annoying to deal with because he denies your bonus dice and gets his and he has an evade + focus + autos for your attack. Know whats just as hard as hitting him at range 3? keeping him at range3 and not wasting 2-3 turns with no shot. The moment he is not in range3 that guy folds so fast is laughable. Literally never ever seen him survive to be the last ship, in fact he's usually the first to go (both sides, whether im using him or im facing him).

The LEAST of the aces im worried about. Juno pisses me off more than Inquis does, hell a naked OL pisses me off more than Inquis. I see an inquis and i know EXACTLY how he is going to move and i just immediately shut it down. Admittedly part of the issue is people think hes stronger than he is so they arent worried about getting too close, but thats an insanely common problem.

Tomax Bren packing Crackshot, Guidance Chips and any ordnance is brutal. Those ordnance hits hit really hard and the Crack Shot makes his primary painful too. Tomax does to red dice what PalpSoontir does to green.

Deathfire likewise makes for a very nasty minelayer.

Admittedly part of the issue is people think hes stronger than he is

This and the inverse define the metagame heavily.

I flew 23 point Deathfire + double conner net yesterday.

It's way better than I thought. So easy to hit anything with the nets cause you can barrel roll.

In two games I dropped 4 of 4 nets onto ships.

I hit Soontir and I hit Dash.

like all mine layers, Deathfire takes a little getting used to due to the unique playstyle demands that come with having mines

said demands might lead many to abandon him prematurely or due to playstyle differences; conners aren't as easy as just point at things and rolling dice

doesn't mean he isn't an incredible conner net dispenser and absolutely invaluable when used properly

hell, he's cheap enough to roll with freaking LRS homing missiles as he still only comes out to Gamma Vet prices. At that point, not only is he the cheapest conners but he's also the conner carrier that does the most damage (compare to A-SLAM Wardens and Deathrain) and he's still cheaper than his counterparts

granted, he doesn't have the same ease of conners as the other two, but that's why he doesn't even breach 30 points
