I really had high hopes that the Tie Bomber would be at least playable, at our game night this evening many people used Tie Bombers with different loadouts and our discussion afterwards made it quite obvious that the ship still stinks, a Bomber should not cost 16 points because your not getting anything useful at that cost, you need to add around 6-10 points just to make it useable and at that cost you may as well take Omega Leader or an Interceptor, and the Shuttle title is near useless because it only has like 2 decent crew choices, unfortunetly the Defender got everything good out of Imp Veterans and the Bomber got very little.
Edited by Darth evilImp Veterans is half a dud
I don't know. I saw Tomax Bren do lots of damage across the board with multiple players. It's a glass cannon of course. I am not sure what you want out of a ship but seems alright to me.
Surprising no one has used the shuttle option yet.
Deathfire isnt bad at 23 points with Conner Net and Extra Munitions on him if you like to drop bombs and control movement. Tomax Bren with concussion missles and Extra Munitions with guidance chips and crackshot can be fun at 31 points as well.

would you take Tomax at 30 over the Inquisitor at 31?

Well, while the Inquisitor may indeed live longer Tomax may very well be putting out more damage than him IF he can get the concussion shots off. Thats the key right there, unloading your payload before your glass cannon dies.
You can't make bombers any cheaper. They're already a steal at 16 points for 6 hit points at 2 agility and able to barrel roll.
This reminds me of when games like Rebellion come out. You've got one game group shouting that Rebels are broken and Imperials can't win, and you've got another group saying that Imperials always dominate. But if you put all the data together, you find that things even out pretty well. I wonder if some group out there is saying the same thing as you, except they are bemoaning TIE Defenders for being so lackluster.
...On second thought, that seems preposterous. But there is a possibility that others outside of your group are having success with the new TIE Bombers.
Nah man.
At 16 points, naked bombers are nearly as efficient as academy pilots, the golden standard against which all ships are judged.
This has been true since they came out, and now they can roll into combat with a target lock AND focus for free (LRS)

OMG not a fully modified 2 dice attack
Bren is the real deal. And I don't think I am being hyperbolic because it is new. I was playing him with fleet officer and cool hand + 31 point inquisitor + VI, tie/d, ion cannon vessery. Super dope squadron. Giving out free focus to two of the best jousters in x-wing is dope AF.
Also I would recommend you and your fellow x-wingers giving Bombers a few more chances at a couple more of your game nights. Brobots is a list that does fairly well in both the tournament and casual scene, yet the first six times flying it I went 0-6 and failed miserably. It took me those first six matches to get used to flying them and figuring out the build. Since then im 3-1 with Brobots. If your game night is just casual x-wing fun then give it another go with Bombers, you just might see something in them you and your friends missed the first time. Try changing what you fly with them as well.
Edited by Evenflow30I will say that I'm not a fan of the Bombers stat line. 6 hull behind 2 agility burns down quick. Just about as quick as a Tie Fighter, which is unfortunate when you consider the bomber is 4 points more for a worse dial as well. But, while I don't think bombers are going to be doing much for the time being outside of being a cheap alpha strike option similar to what Z-95s are, I think the Tie Shuttle, as Imperials get more crew, will raise in power exponentially. I have already found that a Vader shuttle is something that can really mess with an opponents squad if not dealt with appropriately. Throw a hull upgrade on it as well and you get 4 crits out of that thing on anything that gets caught in its arc, ranges 1-3. Or, if your opponent focuses it down, who cares? It's a cheap bomber they just focused their squad on!
Well, don't forget that I still made Top 8 with 2 Scimitar at our Regional and they served me well all day long. They were a very important part of my list.
I'm in the camp that believe that they, naked at least, are worth their points. And they are underestimated. But the more you load them out, the more you realise that they are still a ship with 6 hull behind 2 agility. At 16 points, they are wonderful fillers. At 25-30 points, you need to have a plan with them, or a crit will screw your day.
Not every ship needs to be game breaking and shakes the meta. So ship are just fine being the occasional filler. I think the Tie Bomber fits nicely there.
I would say that is its biggest weakness. Crits!!!
Not having shields on them are tough.

Fine, since you need things spelled out for you.
Gamma squad vet, crackshot, long range sensors x5 100 points
That's 30 health, doesn't have to fly in formation, gets better benefits than howlrunner AND out pilot skills the tie swarm. You can go for howlie, and ensure your opponent never gets his bonus roll, or possibly kill 2-3 ties before they fire.
I'm not impressed with either ship upgrades.. I used both a few times and will keep trying them but they just don't fit into my personal play style.
As mentioned they take a lot of crits
The thing I don't like about bombers when loaded up is it's still pretty hard to shoot at those aces.
It can be done if you stagger them, but actually getting dmg through is another story. As usually you only have 1-2 getting to shoot while the others are trying to get that shot
That 3 turn on their dial makes is extra hard to get aces in arc.
Using them as a shuttle though, that's where they shine.
Load up a bunch with tactician, or have one with Fleet Officer. Personally I like having tactician on them then rebel captive and Mara jade as well. Nobody wants to shoot the captive, and Mara jade becomes like Biggs
There is a dud here all right and it ain't in IV...

How expensive is that compared to other lists? You'd need 3 Imperial Vets, 2 Khirazx, and 2 TIE Bombers, I think?
I haven't yet had much luck with the bombers, but the defenders sure did become fun as hell.

... I DID... wuz fun to make too!
imo bombers should be able to take both guidance chips and Long Range Scanners.
Tie-Shuttle is interesting with tactician but it costs every slot which hurts ordnance and imo doesnt address the bombers issues... to make it a powerhouse you have to load it with ordnance which pushes its points past playable into the novelty domain.
imo bombers should have flexibility of using a missile slot or torpedo slot for other upgrades... a bit like the intercepter title but it costs you an ordnance slot.

Seriously?!?
- Tomax Bren - great
- Gamma Sqd with EPT - cheap and effective ordinance carrier-
- Tie Shuttle title - lots of potential there, especially with Fleet Officer, Tactician etc. Good support or control ship. Put Vader on one for what I like to call the Kamikaze Bomber.
