Minis for F&D

By blizzyblake2486, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Hey Everyone,

So I recently started the F&D RPG, and wanted to use minis for my campaign. does anyone have any suggestions? I've already considered imperial assault, but I want more Jedi type minis. Or anything for that matter.

Read this post. I believe Wizards of the Cost's Star Wars miniatures line has a number of options for you, if you can find them.

Customized LEGO minifigures...but these can become expensive, quickly.

I use the wotc star wars minis I used for Saga Edition. I also made a simplified grid rules system based off Saga and 4e DnD that works pretty well. Range bands are 6 squares, any kind of flanking or cover provides Blue/black dice. Just have to apply the dice for narrative situations to the grid.

The Star Wars LEGO sets do come in handy. The "mystery pack" minifigs have given me some useful ones as well

I'll second that. If you can find a place that resells them, there are lots of Force-users available, and the ones that aren't specific characters are relatively cheap.

I will say, though, that it's been a while since I shopped for them, since I usually stocked up at Gen Con but haven't been there for a few years.

okay awesome. thanks everyone. I looked at the WOTC minis too, was just trying to see other option. thank you!

I typically use the 3.75" action figures for role playing. I've customized quite a few over the years for myself and for players.

It really depends on what amount of proxies & substitution you're willing to accept. If you're willing to say "The white pebbles are stormtroopers and the matchbook is a speeder bike" then you can literally substitute anything as a mini. The aforementioned paper minis offer a little more suspension of disbelief, and are certainly more cost-effective.

If, on the other hand, you really want 3D minis that faithfully represent Star Wars characters then gaming mins and action figures seem to be your best bet. Several mail-order gaming sites have old stocks of WotC minis (Paizo & Miniature Market, for example). They usually have good amounts of stormtroopers, battle droids, & the like but character-type minis can be harder to find. FFG's Imperial Assault line makes great gaming minis, but they come as bare plastic. There are great tutorials over in the IA forum (and on YouTube) for painting, but it isn't everyone's cup of tea. Additionally, the character minis come mostly in the boxed sets, which aren't cheap.

Action figures - either recent or vintage - offer some intriguing possibilities, but can be pricey to get a large collection... pricier even than IA minis. Personally, I like the smaller scale of gaming miniatures, but to each his/her own. Good luck!
