I'm okay with that.

The reason I am thinking there might be a Rogue One core is that a core set is the only way to get into a big box store like Target. If an X-Wing: Rogue One product is supposed to hit the big stores on Force Friday it will be a core type set that allows two players to go at it right out of the box. Perhaps it will be an abbreviated core set that has one TIE and one small Rebel ship or something? I dunno. If there isn't going to be a big box store X-Wing product we'll probably just see standard expansions at game stores.
Kinda like the ARC-170 did, you mean?First of all, they'd be T-70 pilots, right? So wrong era. To be fair, it could be a bit like Most Wanted, where cards in a pack don't match the ships in the pack, but I doubt it.So who are the other two x wing pilots? It's possible that there's Rogue One content in heroes of the resistance, and that content could be spoiled.
There clearly isn't. And if it was Rogue One stuff, I doubt FFG would able to announce it.
Secondly, the "Rogue" in "Rogue One" has nothing to do with the "Rogue" in "Rogue Squadron", as far as I understand. Thus, the new movie is not an obvious source for new starships in this miniatures game. I have seen the two pics floating around, of course.
I don't understand what you mean.
The ARC-170 includes pilots we know from flying other craft...flying ARC-170s.
Here we'd be talking about a package from 30+ years in the future with respect to the events of Rogue One, with the T-70 X-wing miniature included in the box, having a pair of T-65 X-wing pilots.
At least that is what I took the poster to imply: i.e. Heroes of the Resistance might include pilots from Rogue One.
So who are the other two x wing pilots?

Snap Wexley and Jess Pava. More T-70 pilots from TFA.
They don't have to release a preview, just show models from Rogue One with no commitments or details of what sets.
Hoping for an S&V Epic set.
If Heroes of the Resistance follows the standard wait between announcement and release that the Aces or Veterans packs saw, approximately 200 days, we'd expect it around mid November.
If it follows the T-70 and TIE/fo stand-alone expansions additions to wave 8 scheme, approximately 100 days, then it could be out right around Gen Con. This might be closer to correct as this pack, like the T-70 and TIE/fo expansions, uses existing molds.
If the second scenario is true, then we'd only be awaiting Wave 9 after Gen Con, leaving plently of room for a Gen Con announcement of: Wave 10, Scum Aces, and Scum Epic.
Wave 9 would likely be available in about 150 days from its announcement (something like end of October).

Is Snap on Pope's family tree?

FWIW, what has been communicated to retailers is that HotR is released on the same day as wave 9. Whether that date is REALISTIC or not (IIRC., it's late September) I don't think anyone can guess - but FFG's intent is, apparently, for them to be a simultaneous release. I can't imagine any sort of delay would change that.
Im very skeptical that they are even working on a rogue one core set, TFA core set just came out last year. If they release a rogoue one core set then they are setting themselves up to do a new core set for every movie
I agree, I dont' think there will be a Rouge One core set. Maybe wave 10 will be a Rouge One wave.... and would't the fanbois be happy if a certain imperial min-shuttle with a ton of missiles shows up in the movie.
What people seem to forget is that it may not be up to FFG. Marketing plans don't happen at random. Especially not when directed by juggernauts like Disney.
They may be REQUIRED to have a Force Friday tie-in. Really. That might be part of the license agreement. If so, the only product they can get into general retail stores (cough*target*cough) is indeed a NEW CORE SET. Timing wise - that would be EXACTLY the right window to push new Rogue One merch. (Which is precisely why Disney made it a thing.) This doesn't make it a sure thing, but it is a better-than-educated-guess.

1) Rogue One =/= Rogue Squadron. CORRECT. The two uses of the word are unconnected. For the life of me, I can't figure out why a trailer that features space-ninjas and espionage, and half-a-dozen new characters - none of whom appear to be pilots - but ZERO x-wings didn't get this point across.
2) "The new movie is not an obvious source for new starships" INCORRECT. You have reckoned without Die Maus. There is a 0% chance that Disney will let a Star Wars movie go out without opportunities for toy tie-ins. THERE WILL BE SPACESHIPS! Even it's just 27 different repaints of the venerable T-65, THERE WILL BE NU PLASTIK SPAYSHIPPPSSS!!!!! "two pice floating around" - IF they are accurate - is enough to build a Core Set from.
im still kinda surprised they havent shown anything else in HOTR.
It was announced eons ago, long before wave9 and we already got an arc reveal....?

Interesting news.
Wave 7 only took 128 days from web announcement to in stores. Assuming that's more like it*, we could see Wave 9 around October 8.
*Wave 8 is likely a bad example, as it's 230 days was influenced by the Force Awakens stuff. 130 days is about right for Waves 7, 4, 3, and 1.
Waves 2 & 5 took about a month longer.
Wave 6 took two months longer.

I hear you.
It would be a funny core set to have a troop insertion vehicle dogfighting a TIE Interceptor precursor. Because: NEW!
Hopefully we'd also get a third, also legal damage deck and a third, different color logo. Just for confusion.

I can hear the TO's now... "Yes, there are 3 different damage decks... I think."
That is a valid point.
It has to be stressful for FFG to make this game. Im sure theres a ton of things they really want to do either new ship, upgrade, mechanic, etc etc but its not "starwars" directly so they cant. Or, say for instance they are adamant about releasing a certain ship, say a Jedi pilot ship, but Disney is like "No! Focus on TFA!" so they cant even mention it.
i imagine theres a LOT of things FFG has proposed and have had shot down, even if it was a great idea for the GAME, because its not a great idea for Starwars.
Well, LFL has been fairly nicer to FFG than they were to Decipher. Decipher was forced to scrap their three in testing SWCCG expansions to make Episode I stuff, with the first expansion based on a brief outline and what ever images that LFL would provide. Only X-wing got in on the immediate tie-in stuff. In fact, it hasn't really touched their other games yet.
HotR and Wave 9 are almost certainly in the same release window as Wave 7 and the Raider were last year. That means it will likely prerelease at Gencon and then have a general release late September (give or take). Given we have seen the boxed ships already it isn't likely to be a Decimator/Outrider length delay.
No need for a core set. Just as Scum & Villainey (an entire new faction) was "only" introduces with a large box, so could Rogue One, which supposedly is just som fixes to ships we know and love.
The introduction of the TFA coreset coincided with a lot of fundamentals like tha damage deck they wanted to change, and Disney aquiring and rebooting SW anew, we are not in that situation now.
... I cannot believe that it didn't occur to me that Rogue One would be the X-wing fix pack we've all been waiting for.
I wonder how long they had the fix in the works, and whether they went far enough to put X-wings at the level of x7 Defenders? Because if so, a new age of the joust could begin - and I would weep tears of joy.
(To the haters: Joustwing cannot and will not *replace* acewing nor turrets. Rather, it sets the benchmark against which you must fly... Blackshot swarms are the current primary example.)
Edited by ReiverIt hasn't occurred to a lot of people, judging by the complaints about Heroes not being the X-wing fix pack.

im getting myself 4 /sf's and a Poe Skill Nine for my birthday
I got distracted by the finger in the pie bit, but thankfully that was at the end. Mmmm pie.
What could FFG possibly release in the future? My bet is that we'll see some Rogue One stuff as soon as more of that develops.

They aren't the same ships as before. The Black One has BB-8 modeled on and the falcon is a different mold too.
Force Friday is on 9/30. I expect to see both wave 9 and HOTR on that day.
R1 NEW Trailer hits tomorrow... be ready for the love and the hate... to flow!

Most obvious difference is the satellite dish on the HOTR Falcon is the square one from TFA, as opposed to the round one on the old model. Otherwise, the differences exist but are tiny and subtle due to the size of the models. Compare the FO to the original TIE Fighter. They're different, but barely. The differences on the SF will be easier to spot.
