No more participation prizes for National Championship events?

By GoldSquadron, in X-Wing Organized Play

According to the recent article prizes only go out to the top 64 players was this a typo or is this change going forward for FFG events?

  • First Place: The winner of a National Championship receives a National Championship trophy to show off to their family and friends, and a first-round bye at the 2016 X-Wing World Championship. A first-round bye will give you a big advantage over the fierce competition at Worlds.
  • Top Four: The top four players each receive a set of acrylic maneuver templates and are certain to make you stand out as an ace.
  • Top Eight: The top eight players each receive a metal challenge coin depicting the icon of the Resistance.
  • Top Sixteen: The top sixteen players each receive a printed acrylic conner net token. Cunning pilots can use these to snare their foes and leave them disabled for a short time!
  • Top Sixty-Four: The top sixty-four players each receive one copy of the alternate art pilot card for the Trandoshan bounty hunter Bossk. If you’re looking for a pilot that can pump out tons of damage, look no further!

They didn't have participation prizes at the Regional or Store Championship levels this year either. Regionals had a top 64 prize and Store Championships had one for top 32.

Yeah, they are done giving participation prizes. The game is big enough that they don't need to entice participants anymore. In fairness though, I feel like the prizes are getting crappier and crappier so it's not necessarily bumming me out anymore. Always look on the bright side of life and all that.

Yay! You showed up! Congratulations on a minimal effort!

Wow. You're going to have a heart attack, hating like that. This is the first year that FFG isn't giving participation prizes. Coincidentally that was the point of this thread. Sorry that you're life is so small that you felt the need to troll an info thread. This forum never fails to disappoint.

Edit: Participation prizes grow and foster a community of people that want to show up for tourneys. Your disdain for the participation prize shows an elitism that doesn't belong in any game. If I had to make a wager, I'd say you are probably socially awkward, and generally treat this game as your only way to validate yourself (otherwise I don't think you'd care about what prizes anyone else gets). As someone who has won (and lost) in 30+ tournaments, and seen plenty of player types, I am completely confident in saying that this game doesn't need the attitude you have, and it sounds like you are a real NPE. Do yourself a favor and get rid of your hate.
