RRG, pg 21:

"When an Upgrade card is discarded, it is flipped

facedown. The card is out of play for all purposes

except when determining the total squad point

cost of the ship to which it was equipped. If an

Upgrade card is flipped faceup by a game effect,

it returns to play equipped to the same ship"

There's nothing that indicates that a card that has been returned to play after being discarded is in any way special, or different that it was before it was discarded. The card that gets returned to play is the same one that was discarded.

"It returns to play" would indeed imply "it" is the same card.
