So eight of the brightest X-Wing minds are prepping to show us all how to use Punishers, Starvipers and Rebel HWKs this weekend (spoiler alert: the answer is probably going to be "waste as few points on them as possible then play aces or scouts").
But what if you had to use ALL THREE in the same list?
How would you rescue this trifecta of turd and make something playable?
Coruscant Open - HWK, Punisher, Starviper: What if you had to use all three in the same list?
Was this officially announced as the result? I totally missed it.
I'd start with Palob, Guri and Deathrain.
I'd start with Palob, Guri and Deathrain.
Got to be a Rebel HWK, sorry!
How about...
Kyle Katarn (26) - HWK-290
Adaptability (0), Ion Cannon Turret (5), "Chopper" (0)
"Redline" (37) - TIE Punisher
Extra Munitions (2), Concussion Missiles (4), Cluster Missiles (4), Guidance Chips (0)
Prince Xizor (37) - StarViper
Veteran Instincts (1), Virago (1), Autothrusters (2), Fire Control System (2)

Yep - it's only in 48 hours time!
I'd start with Palob, Guri and Deathrain.

You forgot FCS for Redline which he really, realy wants.
I'd go Guri/Lone Wolf/Sensor Jammer/Cloaking Device/Virago/ATs alongside a loaded Dengar.
Dunno about the HWK.

I'd agree that Deathrain is the best use for a TIE punisher. With both Connor Nets (for aces) and Thermal Detonators (for swarms, generics and torpedo boats) aboard, he's a pretty flexible thing.
At the same time...... Redline is an epic missile boat, and if you've got to take a HWK, might Jan Ors be worth a thought?
Problem is that you won't be able to afford a well equipped Starviper, so you'll end up with a Black Sun Enforcer as a blocker.
- Black Sun Enforcer, Autothrusters
- Jan Ors, Adaptability, Kyle Katarn, Twin Laser Turret
- Redline, Fire Control System, Concussion Missiles, Cluster Missiles, Extra Munitions, Guidance Chips
Plasma Scouts might make a remarkably usable meatshield to ward Xizor with. Otherwise, yeah, Guri is the way to go.
With the recent Redline nerf, I suspect it'll be Deathrain - but there's plenty of scary lists with Deathrain's crazy control element, so that should be interesting anyway.
Rebel HWKs are out of fashion, but a local store championship was won by Procketed Tycho + Jake being backed up by Jan Ors - Fully-modded 6-die attacks might be a gimmick, but it can sure as heck be an
effective
one even so...
Redline wants protorps rather than concussion missiles, surely?
I definitely want to see Deathrain rather than Redline, but I suspect we'll see Redline more as he's a bit less out there to learn to use.
Deathrain looks like EM/Conner/Conner/Baffles/EI for me. Enables you to k-turn, boost, drop a bomb. Vicious changes of just running someone straight off the board.

Jan and Miranda with Homing Missiles also spring to mind. A 6-dice homing missile which ignores evade tokens is not exactly something you can ignore....

The problem is Xizor's cost....
You can't fit him and two plasma scouts in the same list, even with only overclocked R4s, unless you seriously skimp on other upgrades (no extra munitions, for example). Even just veteran instincts, fire control, and autothrusters breaks the bank.
Already have actually

not the case
you need to skimp on a one scout as just one deadeye plasma overclocked, but the other is a 33 pointer which means the full overclocked package and a 1 point crew (4lom!)
alternatively, you turn the skimp scout into a bumpmaster which is an incredibly useful ship
Edited by ficklegreendiceI think at Coruscant you can reasonably expect to see approximately 16 Contracted Scouts among the eight players. Probably allied with 8 Guris.

if that's the case, then the guy bringing palob is going to be at a bit of an advantage

EDIT: and I'd be greatly surprised to see any other Punisher apart from Redline.
Edited by LordBladesKyle w/ Jan, TLT and Juke. Why? Because TLT and juke are beautiful.
Redline Shmedline!
Deathrain is The Punisher and can come in pretty cheap whilst still being the best bomber in the game. Xizor is great and gives you an ace to profit from Deathrain's inflicted chaos, while an accurate tlt snipes from the sideline. Or something.
“Deathrain” (35)

True! Xizor love him a bumpmaster wingman to vamp off of!
Possibly 8 Palpatines tooI think at Coruscant you can reasonably expect to see approximately 16 Contracted Scouts among the eight players. Probably allied with 8 Guris.

EDIT: and I'd be greatly surprised to see any other Punisher apart from Redline.
I'm not sure there's room for Palpatine. What you probably get is a cheap generic Punisher coming in around Palpmobile prices, allowing two aces to go about their business unchecked.
I'm not sure you'll see people want to invest as much in their Punisher to go for Redline, might even wind up getting used as a vanilla blocker.
Prince Xizor (31):
- Predator (3)
- Autothrusters (2)
Total: 36 pts
Contracted Scout (25):
- Deadeye (1)
- Plasma Torpedoes (3)
- Extra Munitions (2)
- Overclocked R4 (1)
- Guidance Chips (0)

You can also lose EM on one Scout and downgrade Predator to Veteran Instincts, so that Xizor can have Virago and system. But I'm not sure if it's worth it.
Other than that, Guri is probably the best choice out of all HWK, Punisher and Starviper pilots and quite easy to make a list around.
Edited by K GenesisI'd personally take Palob over Guri any day in this specific set-up
many people underestimate the HWK (because, as a base ship, it is the worst in the game ) but Palob's got a godsend of an ability that directly impacts both palp aces and torpscouts both of which we can still see plenty of even in this modified format
Edited by ficklegreendiceIt seems this specific setup only allows for Rebel HWKs.
Otherwise, I agree 100%.
Oh what the bull, rebel hwks are BORING
Welp expect a lot of scum and empire then

i assume you mean in the final? we don't have a choice in the other games, we have to use each faction once.

Can we Attani Mindlink in this hypothetical Five-Oh-Turd Calvary Squadron? I could see some combo of Kyle/Guri with mindlink and a Deathrain
