Favorite Playmat?
My girlfriend just bought me the gorgeous Death Star FFG mat, and I was wondering: what is the best non-magnet anti-sliding padding material for mouse pad surfaces?
I like my War Mat and the magnets are really useful.
Are the space-rocks magnetised too?

Even after what I've spent in the last couple of months, to go from zilch to 80-ish ships, plus the unnecessary ancillaries (card sleeves, washers for dials, storage cases, a vinyl star-mat, etc), I still feel the urge to drop a couple of hunji on a 3x6 mag-mats and enough r.e.m's for the entire fleet (and spares for the next releases).

I prefer less clutter.
As for visually appealing? Bespin and Endor.

I picked up a mat from Something Geeky a while back. Reasonably priced, and really nice quality. Seen a lot of use since, and showing no signs of scratches. Good anti-slip backing on it, too. I'd recommend them. I've been thinking of getting one of the 6x3 ones for Epic games.
Bespin is my favourite.

Yes, I put magnets in the asteroids when I made them.
I love my kraken mat.
I have the space sector 6 and the printing quality and details are really outstanding. The grip on the table is always the best I have ever played on. The only slight downside, the grip of the ships is good, but not best. I have played on mats with better grip for your ships. Though I have not played a lot on that mat so far, so maybe it gets somewhat more grippy once you played a little more on it.
WOW! I hadn't heard of this before, and these all look beautiful! So tempting.
My favorite mat, however, is Bespin, followed closely by my HC&D Supplies Star Field . (The one on their web site doesn't seem to have the faint blue space clouds any more.)
A lot of people seem to like Bespin. Do you guys actually use Bespin or are you saying that because on the computer screen it looks fantastic (which is does)?
I have the Bespin as well as two HCD mats that I bought before FFG released their mats, I will soon be purchasing the Endor and the starfield mat. Every since I picked up the Bespin it has been really hard to get my two old mats on the table. Even though they look good on the computer screen it really doesn't do them any justice for the way they look in person. All the FFG mats look much better in person.
I like my Bespin map. It makes me feel like "this is my turf" whenever I play scum on it

I don't know if these are the best, but the swarm player who won the system open event in London used them. I was going to order some, but the shipping cost turned me off.
I have a playmat with the surface of Death Star. There are two or three minor explosions and it looks fabulous! I really like it but I also think about the official playmat.

I like Bespin, but the print quality from the kraken makes Bespin look pale. Literally, because the contrast is so much better on the kraken one. The nebulas shine against the blackness of space. The FFG mats simply can not compared to those.
The warhammer themed ones got outstanding reviews too. Shame that there are so few reviews for the space kraken mats, I was very hesitant in buying my own blind, but turns out they are worth every cent. Maybe even more so than the ground based ones.

Endor or Bespin is my groups go too. Although, you cant go wrong with the plain starfield, AKA the Alderan mat
DS2 to look at, the plain boring starfield one to actually play on
Our playmat is a very thin piece of black (worn to dark gray) fabric thumbtacked to a piece of corkboard. It's a seriously cheap piece of... construction. But it works, and isn't terribly slippy. Planning to get an official one, since I've got a friend with a few he's looking to unload.
Will feel weird not playing on my corkboard thing, though.
