Crafted droid minion question

By Zakic, in Game Masters

I have a player that is starting a droid tech out of the new Special modifications... and looking thought the book i didnt see the answer to a few questions.. altho its possible i missed it... anyways..

the droid tech went and made 7 monotask droids 4 with combat directive and 2 more with ranged light for a total of 6 with ranged light.. i understand how to figure what they need to roll to hit.. (would be 3 yellows) but the thing im not sure of is what about the differences between the droids? like differences in weapons wounds and or soak.. he ended up crafting all his own weapons using the rules in the book.. they all are using blaster pistols except 1 that got a blaster pistol implant.. the implate does 5 damage with 4 crit.. the player made ones do 6 damge with 3 crit.. now i figured i would just say they all do the same 6 and 3.. but then there are other things.. like 2 of the 6 droids ended up with 4 wounds compared to the others having 3.. also ended up with 2 of the droids having ranged defense 1..

seems a little off to just how the whole group get teh ranged defence upgrade.. also seems like it could get a bit out of hand if i was to split the 6 droids into 3 different minion groups to avoid this issue..

and treating each droid as a separate group is even further away from seeming right..

TL:DR how do you handle small differences in crafting minion droids like variations in wounds or characteristics or soak

The skill pool would not be 3 Yellows. 6 Minions have 5 ranks of a skill, thus the dice pool must be 5 in total. You then upgrade a number of those dice equal to the associated Characteristic. So for those droids I believe it would be a AAAAP pool for Ranged Light.

Honestly I would only ask for a single dice roll for a minion type, then they all have the same benefits. Same goes for the weapons, roll once but pay multiple times. It could take too much away from the character but it also needs to be simple.

yeah i know the die pool i messed up on.. thats what i get for making and post while sleep deprived.. and then not proof reading it like i should..

and the solution i think were going to use is make him roll the droids up and not spend any of the advantages.. just keep track of them then average them out (so say he makes tries to make 5 and succeeded on 4 rolls.. the failed roll is tossed out.. the 4 remaining rolls had say 9 advantages added up between them all.. average that out to 2.25 round to 2 and then he gets 2 advantage to spend on that model of droid.. and when ever he wants to make another one of that exact droid have him make a mechanics check (and maybe a computers check after all you cant REALLY fail the computer check it would just cost you more programing time and hes just coping the code) and spend the required time to make the droid and program it.. maybe letting him spend advantage when making a new droid of that model to reduce crafting time

probably also limit the size of the minion droid group size to 4-5 so it doesnt get stpuid with like 9 droids rolling 1 yellow and 8 green

It won´t go up to 1 yellow and 8 green, abillitys are capped at 5 (to be read in the character creation rules) so the minion group will never exceed 4 green +1 yellow dice.

(it's the same with enemy minions)

The only aspect more minions are adding is the woundthreshold, so it will take longer to reduce theire effectnessly and crush them down.
