Apologies if this has already been noticed, but I think these could be really good with the MC80 Star Cruiser and SW7s. I was skeptical at first, but not caring about the blues makes this upgrade more attractive. That's a pretty cheap ship that can make sure damage is pretty static but I get to reroll those blank reds. I might want gunnery team instead, but I think it would be worth trying.
Veteran Gunners
They're a wep team though
Which means no gunnery team
Which means no dice from me
So we all agree they are best for red dice as there are ordnance experts for black, and leading shots for blue which are both better.
Now if you have enough red dice to worry about rerolls, then really you want TRC's to manipulate. If you have no evades to use, then perhaps you have enough dice to look at the king of dice manipulators - Sensor Teams.

Veteran Gunners makes you reroll all dice. Maybe I am missing something, but the card looks miserable. I get that with SW7s, your blues are always useful. So rerolling them is probably no loss unless your reroll removes your needed acuracies.
Leading shots seems significantly better for the large Mon Cal ships.
Maybe over lunch i can go mathwars on it and see what works better.
I'm saying in a pool with 4 blues and 3 reds, I'm okay with rerolling if I only get one hit on reds. I don't think it's THE BEST, but I also know I don't want gunnery team on more than one ship, since smart players are good at avoiding having more than one ship in a gunnery team arc. I'm just saying I think I found a way where this thing is useful. I see using this in a list with two liberties, one with GT and leading shots and spinal, the other with VG and SW7.

Its designed for those ships who have a gunnery team slot, and no other way of accessing Rerolls, despite having a chunk of unreliable red dice.
Read: Assault Frigates.
Pretty sure there was already a math thread on it... And basically, it ends up similar to leading shots, with leading shots slightly leading - although leading shots costs you a die, you can keep your best results as well.... But that's irrelevent, when leading shots is not an option ![]()

Mind that you are allowed to spend any accuracy results to block defense tokens before rerolling all remaining dice in the attack pool.
Its not a great card at first sight, but it gives some failsafe ability to those underwhelming roles everybody has experienced already. Spend the 1-2 accuracies you need, afterwards reroll the entire remaining pool as long as its damage output is below average.
If you bring more than one reroll ability it is a nice first reroll try as well, since you dont have to sacrifice other dice (leading shots) or tokens (Vader, TRC).
I will give them a try on ships that reliably have to deal damage to play their part.
It did not occur to me that you could spend the accuracies first, then reroll. That improves my opinion of the card.
Though it is still seems to be basically only for the AFmk2. The MC30s all want Leading shots. CR90s want TRC. Mc30s want OE. Imperials all want Gunnery Teams or Ordinance experts. Then again, Imperials have Vader as well.
The Assault Frigate is a good point that I hadn't thought of yet.
In the final analysis, most ships have a selection of preferred upgrades. And not every ugprade will work well for every ship that can take it.
Even a ship has a preferred upgrade in our present thinking, it might be the case that a player wants to try some different cards in other slots.
For the Liberty, it is going to come down to what upgrades you want to use in what slots, and how those upgrades will interact with each other.
For imperials the best use of Veteran Gunners is blue-crit (or accuracy) fishing on Raider-2.
I have been intentionally running upgrades I normally wouldn't to try and find unrecognized gems. At the moment I am going after XX9s. Maybe Veteran Gunners will need that treatment from me once these waves drop.
I played around with it a little while in the dice app, to see how my results would compare between Leading Shots vs. the SW7+VG combo starting with the same roll. The combo is expensive, but interesting. After a dozen rolls I never got worse results from SW7+VG, and would sometimes get better results. I especially liked it when I would get a couple of accuracies on the red dice. That means if I want one or both, I could spend them, and not have to worry about rerolling that red die.
After those rolls, though, I was thinking I might rather just take SW7 (or LS) and save the points or the upgrade slot. I was finding that SW7 alone was giving me pretty consistent rolls, where I didn't necessarily even need to reroll. But sometimes when that critical shot lines up, you want to give yourself every advantage...
ISD 2 might be nice with vet gunners... I'll have to try it pout when released... not sure you need SW7 with it either as blue dice already roll quite well... could take the new ion cannon to shut down ecm instead
Aim to shut down something else, because you're probably still doing enough damage and getting an Acc for them to Use ECM anyway....
Remember, Crits are always after Defence Tokens are spent, so that's after ECM would feasably be used....

Well what I had in mind was double arc, hit with side first, screed, exhaust ecm, hit with front, use vet gunners because double arc is the plan no need for gun teams, get God roll, ram for last point of damage, easy game! :-)
Yeah, if you're going for the double arc, that's okay... Just like Overload Pulse, MK-1s are best used when you're expecting both Piddly Damage and a Blue Crit.... ![]()
Can confirm. Good with reds. I got to reroll two crap rolls with them. Worth about 5 points. But not much more.
So, it's a hedge against outlier bad rolls. Big whoop.
While the Imperial gunner helmets on the art are pretty, it's not going to make me want to shell out the money to buy a Liberty expansion pack.
Devious, isn't it?
They want you supporting the Rebellion in order to gain Imperial Prestige ![]()
Let's say you could pick only one, either vet gunners or leading shots, I think I would take gunners... close though

$%#$% Rebels.
I've not supported the Rebellion by buying MC30s for their Assault Proton Torpedoes; I'm sure as the void not going to cave in for some shiny helmets.
Besides, the moment I do, we will all know what alt art cards will show up in an upcoming tournament kit.
At least you know you're going to be Rolling in XI-7s finally ![]()

XX-9's with XI7's on an MC80b/s is pretty good if Dodonna's your admiral, I think. Sprinkle in Liberty and bombers to really crank up the pressure.

Ugh.
I'll confess that I did get some Neb-Bs, but then I haven't really found myself using XI7s or Intel Officers all that much.
Its okay....
... We all support the Rebellion now and then...
