Star Wars Fans ruin X-Wing not FFG!

By Tritus De, in X-Wing

My post was pretty clear, not sure how you got confused. I said he looks childish for criticizing people who think prequel ships suck. This flip side is that I don't get upset and criticize people who like the prequels and their ships.

A reasonable person understands both sides, and doesn't make poop-threads like this that are intentionally divisive and incredible insipid

Obviously, though, I do feel bad for those unfortunate people with bad eyesight and learning disabilities that like the prequel ships. But I won't begrudge them their ships. But if collective negative feedback keeps them out of the game, then it's a net win for me, sure.

Is that really a healthy and pleasant attitude though? You said just a couple lines above that you don't criticize people who like the prequels/ships.... and then a couple lines later you go and do it.

Maybe fans of the prequel ships DON'T have bad eyesight and AREN'T developmentally disabled.... and just happen to like the ships anyway?

I'm old enough to have seen all of the films in the theater. I was making Lego X-wings and Tie Fighters when I was a little kid. And although I played a variety of Star Wars video games growing up, including the 'Super' series on SNES, I never got into the X-Wing/Tie Fighter games because I was not a PC gamer. So ships from that series mean jack diddly to me.

Now fast-forward to the prequel movies... I generally did not like them. Jar-Jar, overuse of CG, and a lot of poor acting. But I did NOT have a huge problem with the ship designs. So even though I don't like the movies, I can enjoy the ships just fine. Especially when they are separated from the context of the films and are just little miniatures used in a space combat game.

But I won't begrudge them their unhealthy obsession with screaming OT out loud every time they get a chance to. But if collective negative feedback keeps them out of the game, then it's a net win for me, sure.

I, for one, specifically got into this game by browsing at a LGS and having someone show me a cool Star War's Millennium Falcon from this game (Star Wars: X-Wing). In other words I got into it specifically because it was Stars Wars and most likely would have passed on by if it had been something else.

So I'm a Star Wars fan who likes this game because it is a Star Wars Game.

Do I 'love' everything in it? Nope! There are a few things I can think of (four actually) but otherwise I'm good and I like it. But even if I got frustrated with some current mentality on the forum or was somehow was offended, at worst I might stop coming to the forum but would still love my Star Wars Miniatures and still buy what I felt was 'cool enough' to buy.

But that's me :D

Wow. Why do people feel the need to use this forum to announce their retirement from this forum. Is that ironic? Don't ya think?

The internets sucks. That's nothing new. Who cares what anonymous people have to say? LOL. Ignore them.

The prequels had some awesome looking ships. The names of the ships were also not as stupid and immersion breaking as the Rebel ships in the original trilogy and expanded universe are.

What is the obsession with naming ships after something that the ship kind of resembles that no one in the fictional world would even have a point of reference for? An X is a **** triangle in Aurabesh. The Y-Wing I could see maybe being called a V-Wing or K-Wing but it doesn't even have any wings so WTF is up with that? It would make more sense for the Imperials to use that sort of naming since an Aurabesh H is a sideways TIE Fighter and a B is a sideways TIE Advanced.

<_< maybe because Lucas didn't give a **** about Arubesh and SW universe used English (like every culture in fiction created in US-world)

Absolutely. But he won't be the last. Nor the first getting upset with people (or even me) on this forum.

I don't know if we are better off without them, but surely we are better off without their negativity and most likely if they are so easily offended perhaps they are better off finding somewhere else to visit. In a big world not everyone is compatible.

I always thought the X-Wing was named because from the rear it looked like an X; the Y-Wing because from the top, nose down, it looks similar to a Y and the same for the A-Wing. Of course the TIE Fighter is so named because it looks like a Bow Tie and Bow Ties are cool.

The "Roman alphabet" was commonly used enough to get an explanation: "High Galactic":

And there's the Greek alphabet - for shuttle names. Explanation - it's "Tionese":

Well that was emotional.

I agree, it also seems things have gotten worse of late.

That probably is why they are named that. His point, though, was that in the Star Wars universe they don't use our alphabet and therefore wouldn't have a reason to call it an "x" or "y". I say sometimes, you just gotta let one slide :)

I'm pretty certain that the word 'fiction' fits into the Star Wars universe somehow.

It's like raaaiiiiaaaaaiiiin on your wedding day!

Dude. It's only a game. I spend my money on it and it is a good hobby, but at the end of the day: It's only a game.

I have been on this forum and followed X-Wing even before it came out. Sure there is whining and crying on the forum, but the majority of the posts I read are positive or constructive to the game. I go beyond the petty stuff and read between the lines of posts. You should do the same Tritus!

I missed a memo I guess, when was the game ruined?

If I understand that wiki article correctly, the only reason that High Galactic remained canon was because of Jar-Jar Binks?

I mean at least until Kevin Hearne wrote a book that mentioned it.

I just think it's funny that people are constantly bagging on everything that came out of the prequels just because there was some stupid stuff in them. You don't have to look very hard to find some silliness in the OT but that doesn't mean everything that came out of the OT sucks because of it.

I think the OT movies are much better than the prequels, but you I can't deny that the prequels (and The Clone Wars) had some pretty cool stuff in them. The ARC-170 is a cool looking ship and I'm glad they are adding it. The Eta-2 is badass, I can't wait until we get that one. Some of the Droid ships are really cool looking as well and could probably make it into the game as Rebel (or maybe even Scum) ships since it seems that stockpiles from the decommissioned CIS fleet pop up a few times in the early years of the Rebellion.

Yeah you heard me. I've read so much negativity in the short time I've been a member of this forum it is clear that something needs to be done.

Now there are those who clearly are not just moaning and whining because they've nothing better to do with their time. Some have genuine reasons for disliking certain things and wanting to see fixes and such. Unfortunately, even these intelligently composed topics start suffering the seemingly inevitable blather of those who likely inspired the phase: haters gonna hate

For me, nothing exemplifies the sheer scathing hatred of allegedly Star Wars fans than the reaction to the ARC-170. Handsome ship. Some good stats and cards. But instantly it was cast aside by many, coincidentally by many Star Wars fans who hate the Star Wars prequel movies. This came across in their unwillingness to even discuss the pros and cons of the ship in a list.

This is a Tabletop Miniature Game. It is a new Tabletop Miniature for the game. Yet instantly that is ignored in the scramble to whine about prequel ships. Any who dare to hope for N1 or Jedi Starfighter are treated like retards for even mentioning it. Some do discuss what it might bring to the game , and I have no beef with those who think it wouldn't add anything new. But to go on a I hate the prequels, I hate Jar Jar Binks, I hate George Lucas, Disney suck rampage when discussing a potential future miniature and it's merits, or lack thereof, is frankly juvenile.

I'm not going to name names, but I have even witnessed somebody contradicting themselves. If I were to collect a number of their posts together, you'd actually think they were having a schizophrenic argument with themselves. Perhaps I've encountered my first troll who gets their kicks out of arguing and hating just for the thrill of annoying other people. But not all the negativity here can be blamed on schizophrenic trolls.

Unfortunately, the constant barrage of negativity means I've not read topics which I was initially interested in. Rather than even glance past the hate posts, I just move on to another topic. Sadly this has resulted in more time spent off-topic since I can at least enjoy the Three Word Story and the vitally important issue of is bacon overpowered . Wanting to unwind during and after a stressful day, I've found this community has the opposite effect. I often leave more stressed than when I arrive.

But this isn't limited to here though. Everywhere I look Star Wars fans hate Star Wars. Moan and whine about Star Wars. Treat those who don't hate Star Wars as if they're moronic turds. STAR WARS FAN will one day, and I fear that day will come soon, if not already, be used by the dictionary to describe the meaning of the word: oxymoron

So it is with a heavy heart that I retreat from the forum and take a temporary respite from X-Wing and Armada. The hatred of many "Star Wars fans" is the reason for this. Not just here but wherever I go for gaming. It's just all anger, moaning and belittling of the few who are happy.

Like I said in the title: Star Wars fans ruin X-Wing not FFG!

To all the negativoes and haters out there: YOU are ruining X-Wing!

Fantasy Flight Games have created awesome games with equally awesome models and I have no complaints. I still intend playing games on the side, and will visit the site for news about releases. Unfortunately, the days of me participating in the forum or gaming with other "fans" are over.

and those few. Those happy few. Those band of brothers. Whose intelligence and humour made my time here enjoyable. If we ever encounter each other in the real world, first round of drinks is on me and I'll break out the X-Wing models for a game or two. Or more :)

Keep up the great work FFG!

My last post.

Don't disrespect my Star Wars! I'm the biggest fan, Star Wars will never die!

May you Force long and Prosper. :P

But yeah Prequel hate is nothing new especially around here. I am curious why FFG went with a prequel ship and not one of the new Disney U-wing and TIE-Strikers from Rouge One. Did the ARC-170 made an appearance in Rebels?

I will admit I am not a big fan when I first saw the ARC-170 and the MOST POINTLESS USE OF S-FOILS ever. Still I think more prequel ships and even the prequel sub-factions will make their way into X-wing.

I'm sorry, I got lost after hearing that bacon is overpowered ... but is it as op as orange bases?

Once, Padawan Tritus De, I was like you. My first weeks on this forum were like heading to a Sith convention featuring Anger, Hate, and the Power of Fix My Favorite Ship It's Broken. I fled. I almost quit the forums, despite the fact that I knew my user name was quite clever, and a misrepresentation of my goals.

When you are at peace, you will know what threads to read. Avoid anything titled with the words "Broken", "Fix", "Nerf", and "Tournament." These are the paths to the Dark Side.

Unlearn what you have learned. Once you use these simple rules, these boards are a much happier place.
