Star Wars Fans ruin X-Wing not FFG!

By Tritus De, in X-Wing

Yeah you heard me. I've read so much negativity in the short time I've been a member of this forum it is clear that something needs to be done.

Now there are those who clearly are not just moaning and whining because they've nothing better to do with their time. Some have genuine reasons for disliking certain things and wanting to see fixes and such. Unfortunately, even these intelligently composed topics start suffering the seemingly inevitable blather of those who likely inspired the phase:

haters gonna hate

For me, nothing exemplifies the sheer scathing hatred of allegedly Star Wars fans than the reaction to the ARC-170. Handsome ship. Some good stats and cards. But instantly it was cast aside by many, coincidentally by many Star Wars fans who hate the Star Wars prequel movies. This came across in their unwillingness to even discuss the pros and cons of the ship in a list.

This is a Tabletop Miniature Game. It is a new Tabletop Miniature for the game. Yet instantly that is ignored in the scramble to whine about prequel ships. Any who dare to hope for N1 or Jedi Starfighter are treated like retards for even mentioning it. Some do discuss what it might bring to the game , and I have no beef with those who think it wouldn't add anything new. But to go on a I hate the prequels, I hate Jar Jar Binks, I hate George Lucas, Disney suck rampage when discussing a potential future miniature and it's merits, or lack thereof, is frankly juvenile.

I'm not going to name names, but I have even witnessed somebody contradicting themselves. If I were to collect a number of their posts together, you'd actually think they were having a schizophrenic argument with themselves. Perhaps I've encountered my first troll who gets their kicks out of arguing and hating just for the thrill of annoying other people. But not all the negativity here can be blamed on schizophrenic trolls.

Unfortunately, the constant barrage of negativity means I've not read topics which I was initially interested in. Rather than even glance past the hate posts, I just move on to another topic. Sadly this has resulted in more time spent off-topic since I can at least enjoy the Three Word Story and the vitally important issue of is bacon overpowered . Wanting to unwind during and after a stressful day, I've found this community has the opposite effect. I often leave more stressed than when I arrive.

But this isn't limited to here though. Everywhere I look Star Wars fans hate Star Wars. Moan and whine about Star Wars. Treat those who don't hate Star Wars as if they're moronic turds.

STAR WARS FAN will one day, and I fear that day will come soon, if not already, be used by the dictionary to describe the meaning of the word: oxymoron

So it is with a heavy heart that I retreat from the forum and take a temporary respite from X-Wing and Armada. The hatred of many "Star Wars fans" is the reason for this. Not just here but wherever I go for gaming. It's just all anger, moaning and belittling of the few who are happy.

Like I said in the title:

Star Wars fans ruin X-Wing not FFG!

To all the negativoes and haters out there: YOU are ruining X-Wing!

Fantasy Flight Games have created awesome games with equally awesome models and I have no complaints. I still intend playing games on the side, and will visit the site for news about releases. Unfortunately, the days of me participating in the forum or gaming with other "fans" are over.

and those few. Those happy few. Those band of brothers. Whose intelligence and humour made my time here enjoyable. If we ever encounter each other in the real world, first round of drinks is on me and I'll break out the X-Wing models for a game or two. Or more :)

Keep up the great work FFG!

Welcome to the internet, brace yourself.

Welcome to the internet, brace yourself.

Games Workshop rebooted Warhammer.

Age of Sigmar was announced and one "fan" burnt his collection.

Yet Games Workshop gets less hate from its fans than Star Wars. That ain't right!

I smell a Trekkie in our midst. Begone troll.

I can get tiering, I give you that. However, did you know about the ignore function? Seems like you identified the users that get on your nerves pretty well, blocking them could increase your enjoyment of the forum. I personaly don't block anyone since I do have a pretty thick skin and know some users that while driving me insane on certain topics still have valuable insights on others which I wouldn't want to miss, but I don't think anyone would think lesser of you. (and even if they would, why not just ignore them, too?)

The answer to an issue has been found! Finally we can lay it to rest. One less thing to think about, whew.

It's the nature of fandom. I like Star Wars. There are some things I wish were realized differently, but that is the nature of art. No one looks at a painting and says, "Hey! That's not how I envision a person/tree/mountain! This is poppycock!" We grant the artist license.

There is nothing wrong with having preferences. There are some depictions of Batman I like better than others, whether because of the art or the story-telling or character development that isn't my favorite. There are episodes of Star Trek that I think are cheesy or sub-par. And don't even get me started on the Hobbit movies! Haha. When you are passionate about something, it's easy to feel defensive about it.

That said, some people DO need to maintain some perspective...

Fan is short for fanatic. Fanatics are retards, retards are often schizophrenic. All explained logically, right? ;-)

Don't disrespect my Star Wars! I'm the biggest fan, Star Wars will never die!

You've been a member of the forum for seven days, and in that time you've built up enough anger and bile to cause you to leave it in a very public and emotional way. That's a problem right there.

I'm not saying that this forum is a nest of peacock feathers and rainbows, but it is full of great insight into the game, full of people who care (maybe a little too much!) about this game, and full of the camraderie and irony that is generated through sympathy & understanding of the many heartbreaks that befall anyone who plays this little beautiful SOB of a game.

Is it also where people discuss the competitive game? Sure, and it should be - X-wing is now the biggest miniatures game in the world, and at a recent tournament I was at there were 430 people there to play the game. That's a bloody exciting aspect of the game for many, myself included. But that's not the be all and end all of the forum - it's at its best when discussing painting and mods, 400pt epic battles, sharing cringeworthily nerdy jokes, offering creative analysis of fellow players' problems, etc etc.

Actually, screw it, I AM saying it's a nest of peacock feathers and rainbows!

2 things.

Your definition of 'Star Wars Fan' is not everyone's definition of it. For some the prequels are an abomination. Doesn't matter if you agree or not, it's a pervasive feeling for many. Someone is not more or less of a fan for agreeing or disagreeing with your viewpoint.

It also never fails to make me laugh when I see these cries for attention.

QQ "I'm leaving and all you guys suck!"QQ

We'll sure miss your deep insight and witty banter. Door's over there.

Such a useless topic...e

You need thicker internet skin if this forum can get under it. If you're going to get mad at people for having an opinion, it's probably more on you.

And FYI rants like this only ever make things worse.

<sarcastic rant>

I have to laugh some times when I see how upset people get about a game (all be it a brilliant game) e.g "FFG this card sux so you suck" or "This is broken so fix it now" or "why don't we have this and that ship yet" etc. It's just a bad case of first world problems, but when there people shift out of chateau mummies basement and have to learn to wash them selves and feed themselves then they will realise that there is a bit more to life that if a card is 1 point to expensive or why haven't i learnd to use super glue yet. :)

</sarcastic rant>

I agree on some points, since Ive started playing I have never complained about an upcoming ship. If its not a ship I like or will use any of the cards then I ignore it. But to wine and cry that it shouldn't be made because its not part of the Star Wars you love is just silly.

But to let a forum get under your skin so much you have to be a drama queen and make a big sceen then "quit" is also silly

Stay and grow your ignore list... and be happy that a number of people are cool here and just interact with them.

:)

As mentioned above there is an ignore button you can use. And yes, some of the comments about cards, ships and whatevers still rankles but take it with a tums and let it go. Some people aren't happy unless their complaining about something. Some do it just to hear themselves.

Relax, fly what you like and ignore the roids. Both on the table and in the forums.

See there are cool Star Brothers here too. Stony is on my short list. See if he will be your buddy here too. You'll be his buddy want 'cha budie.

GW gets plenty of hate and mockery, they just don't have official forums for people to congragate on to do it.

JBR, unsure how to take your comment. The old saying, "friends are friends, pals are pals but you always **** your buddy" comes to mind. Please clarify. ;-)

Whiners are a minority. Just chuckle and move on.

I'm not sure I get it.

How many people are truly appalled about the ARC-170 being in the game just because it's a Prequel ship?

See if someone hates it just because of that.. Well that's their prerogative, and if you don't agree with them then ignore them. It's not like you're going to change their mind. Now if someone says it won't be competitive or costs too much... That's not nearly so subjective, because we can look at a ship and it's statline and come to a conclusion about how good it likely will be.

Which doesn't mean we're always right, but the math is seldom completely wrong either.

As someone who regularly hangs around Dakkadakka and Bolter and Chainsword, this is flat out not true. Dakka, at least, has a large contingent of grognards who are readily awaiting GW folding.

well, at least it's right about FFG not ruining anything

behold the glory!
