The Books

Is it just me or is the print in the rulebooks really small :)

Not complaining... Think I'm just getting old :)

Nope, totally with you! It's particularly hard for me with the white-on-green boxes. Yep, I even got new glasses recently, with old-man progressive lenses, and it's still tiny! I'm shopping magnifiers while I can still get up when I fall down.

They use an ink saving font I'm sure also which doesn't help reading small letters.

I looked for magnifying glasses with lightsaber handles since you can buy anything from pizza cutters, to pens, to chopsticks, to barbecue forks that are shaped like lightsabers. Sadly I found nothing. :(

Even worse, if you're playing Force and Destiny, they actually decreased the font size in the splat books. I'm no grizzled grognard, but I'm no spring chicken either, and if I spend too long reading them I get some minor eye strain.

I'm wondering how this reading magnification tool works, seems like it would be useful for more than just books. Anyone ever tried one?

I like that it's big enough to pick out an entire paragraph and that it stays a consistent distance from the page.

My father and grandfather are geologists and we've all used similar magnifiers looking at, well, different types of rock lol. Before he passed my grandfather was using them to read the paper everyday too, and I've started using them in my history thesis to read some of the old, handwritten documents I need. Makes deciphering some of the tiny handwriting on those much easier.

Basically, yes, they do a good job for what you want in my experience.

Well, I'm glad it's not just me!

It doesn't help that when we play we have the lights dimmed for extra atmosphere... My friend had to go find his Grandmother's old magnifying glass for me last session :)

Fortunately we're all of a similar age so we're all in the same boat... Only trouble is none of us know which way it's going :)

I just picked up the EotE GM screen thinking that'd help but no... Writing's still tiny! Best quality GM Screen I've ever laid hands on tho!!

I almost decided not to buy Edge of the Empire when it first released, because the text in the Beginner Game was so small it caused me massive amounts of eye strain just trying to read it. The core book, thankfully, had larger and more readable text. But yes, recent releases have shrunk the text again, and old guys with fading eyesight like me are going to have a harder time reading it.

I'm definitely going to check out one of those LED magnifiers, though.

Yes...

No... so is everybody else :D

The FFG SWRPG line is definitely NOT dyslexia/vision impaired friendly. I'm short sighted and my eyes are light sensitive, the only rulebook I can sit in the garden with on a sunny day is the WFRP 2ed... NICE. In my career I use a minimum size 12 Comic Sans font sometimes on light green, sky blue or pastel yellow paper.... it's the guidelines from the education authority. Black print/white paper really screws my vision up sometimes. Some days I have to do 30 minute blocks then take a 10 minute break, other days I can read for hours.

Probably to keep to a 96 page count. More info... smaller font though

I figured that was probably the reason. They're definitely trying to cram more information into the F&D books, and if I had to guess why, it's probably because it's the most popular line.
