Sometimes you have to take the plunge and teach people about the greatness of the game
This is ridiculous. A year of wait.
Right, and then it's up to unpaid, volunteer suckers like me to build a community.
This has always perplexed me.
My FLGS makes money from having Armada players, the Distributor makes money and FFG makes money but all 3 levels are stuck in the "old mentality" of game company (at least to a degree).
I live in Hamilton, Ontario. It's a city of about 600k people so not tiny. There are exactly 2 Armada players I know of that play competitively from here. That is ME and my friend who uses all my stuff (even traded for a spare damage deck, bought extra obstacles and objectives and I've purchased somethig like 6 movement tools and extra sets of 3rd party rulers)
I am pushing the my local store (whose owner loves Armada but rarely plays) to invest in growing the local Armada community but it's an uphill battle. If there is no obvious ROI for him in the short term he is not really interested.
It kinda feels like the store level is too focused on the short term ROI, the Distribution level is only interested in volume and FFG is afraid of poaching precious X-wing players and splitting their dollar (or something). Whatever their reasons, it feels a bit stupid that everyone with a financial vested interest is happy to let things slide along almost playing into a vacuum and have the arrogance to assume that their customers will pick up the slack and just "make it work" in the field.
In any case, I got the store to agree to run a "beginners tournament" to draw out some newer players and to sponsor a bigger tournament after ( of course, mostly up to me to organize and promote and reach out to the players in nearby Armada communities)
Just the other day I managed to get FIVE people to come down and play some practice games! (only me and my buddy from Hamilton, however)
A game companies job is to create a game that people would like to buy, it is however the players that can be the biggest draw.
People get into X-Wing not because it is a balanced game (it is not), or because it is a great game (it is an ok game), they get into it because there are a ton of players who play.
You are a draw to the game. You are a spokesman. I can't comment on not getting paid, I don't but my FLGS gives me a discount for volunteering
I remember when games all came in one box. No add-ons no expansions you just played the game.
I can pull out any game I have had for 30 years (example: Battle tech or warhammer 2nd ED.) and still have fun playing it and do all the time. No need or want for new anything.....
Why the need to keep adding more and more to games to want to keep playing them?? Do you really get that board without change all the time?
War hammer 2nd Edition. What. A. Game.
I would like to see a new wave come out every six to eight months, so we would get two a year, or at least three every two years. But this may just be me. I think it gives enough time to get used to it, and also new stuff is coming out often enough that it is keeping it fresh.
I like 2 waves and a campaign each year.

Be nice wouldn't it?
I very much like the idea of spacing them out 4-6 months, if the Campaign works and they plan to do more "Christmas Annual" on that one and April, August for ships would be a treat.

The campaigns will allow them to add in new Aces, titles, etc for ships and squadrons. It would be our version of a deluxe edition

Yes please more squadron variants or even ship cards! That would be quite interesting.

Which is what the rest of us want too. How far along since Sullust are we?

Well since Sullust was not a release it matters little. It was on October 2nd-4th so 9 months. Not yet a year, it has been 7 months since the last release which is still in the 6-8 month window.
You know. I will give a better comparison of a ridiculous year of wait on something. So I said before that I am planning on getting a 2016 WRX next year. Being patient and saving money for the down payment is rough. Especially for me, who never had the discipline to do something like this. I've had to blow the the savings twice already this year, once for the current car, and once for surgery for me. The net result is that it may delay the car purchase further that I wanted it to be, but the one thing I learned out of it all was how **** glad I was to have those funds around in an emergency. I know that I will eventually be getting the car, maybe a little later than I wanted, but man will that day be really sweet when it happens. I keep thinking of it that way, as a goal post to look forward to. Same goes with these waves. Look at them as finish lines, with cool rewards.
