Four ARC-170? Let's do it......

By Tritus De, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Each of the four pilots brings the points to 108

Alliance Overhaul costs a big fat 0

So that gives 42 points to play with

I'm curious to know what people will do with a four ARC list. I'm used to uniform Tie Swarms and Chewie/Gunner Falcon, so I'm not going to wade into the list myself.

Except to say I'd add R2-D2 to one. Lots of slow speed greens will keep the shields regenerating.

I look forward to reading your thoughts :)

I'm tempted to buy four ARC-170s.

So you might see your list on my gaming mat.

I haven't given lists much thought for the ARC-170 yet but I'm very excited for them. Four in a list might be a lot though don't you think?

I'm going to plead temporary insanity

But I am curious as to what people think about a four ARC list.

Fine, I'll do something myself. That way you can point out all my stupid choices and set me straight:

All have TITLE: Alliance Overhaul

BRAYLEN STRAMM

after performing a manoeuvre can roll dice and on a bang or boom remove a stress token.

CREW: Kyle Katarn

If the stress token gets removed the ship gets a focus token.

ASTROMECH: R5-P9

At the end of a combat round, spend a focus token to recover one shield.

STRATEGY: Fly this one fast, with red manoeuvres to cause stress. Yeah it's a 50/50 gamble but why not have some fun with the stressed out regeneration combo.

THANE KYRELL

Enemy ship at range 1-3 attacks a friendly ship, may perform one free action.

CREW: Recon Specialist

Assign two focus tokens instead of one

ASTROMECH: R5-D8

Action - roll a defence dice and on a focus or evade discard a facedown damage card.

STRATEGY: stick close to the enemy, and when they attack a friend to gain a free action. Try to gain that extra action. Combining double focus and target lock should get nasty, and there's always the Astromech for when such aggression gets him into trouble.

SHARA BEY

Another friendly ship at range 1-2 can treat your target lock tokens as their own.

ELITE PILOT TALENT: Predator

Always good to get a reroll. Even better if I get two.

CREW: Weapons Engineer

When acquiring a target lock, can target two ships

ASTROMECH: R2-D2

After performing a green manoeuvre recover one shield

STRATEGY: Fly fast/slow enough to stay green, acquire and share multiple target locks and kick butt when necessary.

NORRA WEXLEY

When attacking or defending, if you have a target lock on the enemy add one focus to the result.

ELITE PILOT TALENT: Calculation

For a bit extra bang on the attack.

CREW: R2-D2 or Chewbacca (same points)

Mostly for recovering a shield, even if just once. Not sure I can use R2 crew in the same list as R2 Astromech.

ASTROMECH: R7 Astromech

When defending, if you have a target lock on the attacker, you can spend it to force the enemy to reroll some or all dice.

STRATEGY: Likely sticking close to SHARA to share those target locks, while joining her in blasting enemies into oblivion. Generally will perform focus actions against enemies, and use a SHARA target lock on the defensive.

That leaves 13 points for Modifications. Humbug, brain is draining, four hull upgrades!

Braylen --> r3-a2 + gunner/tactician [32/29]

apart from the obvious synergy (which only works 50% of the time), he's the cheapest arc and the only one whose ability isn't stymied by stress

Thane [26]

eh...Thane doesn't actually need upgrades. He's good as is, and if he's cheap he'll give your opponent a headache (do they shoot Thane or shoot someone more important and then eat a fully modified shot from Thane...?)

Shara

my god her ability sucks. seriously I'm running her with bb-8 sabine seismics and extras (and vi) and focusing on bombing more than shooting just so her ability doesn't feel like an utter waste [37]

Norra

since Shara's eating bb-8 and Braylen's eating r3-a2, might as well go whole hog on Norra. Push the Limit + c3po + r2d2. [39]

2 guaranteed damage canceled per turn (R2d2 + c3po), goes up to 3 if you use her ability defensively

PTL lets you use her ability every turn; use Shara's to re-roll attack dice if you have to or let another ARC benefit

Braylen - 32

Thane - 26

Shara - 37

Norra - 39

cram in a prototype pilot for blocking and you're good to go

I prefer Z-95 to A-Wing, but that list could be fun to fly.

well, the Z can actually b-roll now

so your pick
