Why not both?

Am i the only one who thinks these pilot abilities are pretty meh? Seriously all of them seem so situational.

Thane Kyrell is pretty solid. A free action when an enemy within either of his firing arcs performs an attack is terrific. At a minimum, it's a free focused, target-locked attack against aces. With upgrades, he can perform a free Boost with R7-T1, get a free Barrel Roll with Vectored Thrusters, and then nab some free tokens with Lando or try to tag someone with a Saboteur.

It's worth noting that the target cannot be Thane for those shots, which I feel bumps him down a good notch.

As noted elsewhere, the Rebels have a very specific way to ensure that Thane is not getting shot at.

And even if you don't run Biggs, he's only one point more than the Target of Tattooine for nine health and one evade die. If the opponent shoots at anyone but him, then he's likely to pick up a free action. You're not forcing them to shoot him, but if he passively encourages them to target him instead of an enemy, then that's valuable.

Nice to see R3 Astromech continuing the proud tradition of making sure the Astromech slot is for R2D2 and R5P9 only.

Seems to me that Thane works quite well with Biggs.

You move both ships and focus. Higher PS ships move and do what they do. They fire at Biggs, you take a target lock action.

Then you fire Flechette Torps at them with R3-A2 for double stress.

T-70 with Juke, Comms Relay, and R3 sounds nice. Spend one round to get a worse attack and then use it for the rest of the game to improve your shot.

Too bad Thane doesn't have an EPT for Squad Leader. Him combined with Biggs would be ridiculous!

Rear Gunner seems pretty sweet. I know Kath Scarlet is good with the gunner, but even Boba Fett, too (Scum). You get someone at R1 and in the rear, you get re-rolls and they get -1 green.

Thane and Biggs. Find all ways of giving Thane actions.

Engine Upgrade, Sabine as crew etc. When you get into the Melee, being able to fire out a Bomb BECAUSE your opponent shot at Biggs could be pretty funny.

The squad leader crossed my mind too, but because the designer of this card future-proofed its uselessness, it can only give actions to lower skill pilots :/

(You can equip it to Thane with the EPT driod... if you wanted to run a pair of Bandits with some missiles alongside him and Biggs maybe?)

don't overload him, just point him at the enemy and draw him leering menacingly over at anyone who threatens his buddies

Thane's ability in an X-Wing (where he'd presumably come in at less than 26 points) would be pretty great, for the same reasons that his ability in an ARC-170 is already great. The ARC is basically an X-Wing with a Crew slot and a rear arc as it is.

Really wish FFG would stop releasing named pilots with no EPT

This this this this this. I could have sworn they learned their lesson and were even making sure every mid-PS generic was getting an EPT now (unless no pilots flying the ship were getting one).

Let's count how many non-EPT named pilots flying EPT available ships see top level play-

Pretty sure that's basically it. I haven't put a lot of thought in to this, but I'm pretty sure I don't need to. The tragedies that are Arvel, Garven, Dutch and Horton, All the non-EPT Interceptors, Graz the Hunter, are well known.

Give them all EPTs FFG, unless they have godly abilities like Biggs. And heck, I don't even think Biggs with an EPT would be outrageous.

Speaking of rebel ywings anyone notice scum dont have a SINGLE SHIP that lacks an ept in the current meta? As in lacks it period, obviously some of them dont unless its a certain pilot

There is a massive gap between the original Y-Wing pilots' design and the Scum pilots' design. Not that anyone actually flies a named Y in either faction.

I wouldn't say Rebels got the short straw compared to Scum, it's more likely the designers didn't want to repeat the mistake made with the original Y pilots.

The lack of EPT on VCX-100 is sort of obvious - R1 w Expose / or VI and Navigator Hera could both be a pain to deal with.

K-Wing and Punishers - it clearly didn't fit on the upgrade bar :D can't have a working scroll bar on cardboard.

Would r3 be good on Horton with btl title and tlt, roll you 2 dice primary, use his ability to fish for focus, turn it to evade, roll tlt attacks, would mean he's a bit more tanky and could take bomb load out to keep your opponent from wanting to get behind him.

If the target has low agility then you may not need to crit fish and just do the damage but it makes it interesting

It's a **** shame they limited the R3 to primary weapon only. It's like they REALLY don't want anyone to run astromechs on those clearly overpowered rebel Y-wings (except R3-A2).

I concur, these are likely the best builds for R3 astromech. It's design does not make it flexible to use at all :( Low PS requires comm relay to be effective.

BTL-A4 Horton works cause the primary weapon shot never hits anything anyways & he's high enough PS.

Even better it would be if you add Juke...

Oh wait, it's wave 9 & Horton still doesn't have an EPT :(

Tail Gunner on Boba Fett is probably better than Gonk. :( cause I want to be Gonking

the entire design of that card is a **** shame

I'm actually kind of flabbergasted that FFG is still designing cards that only work off of certain dice rolls , even if r3 isn't as obviously hideous as r5-d8

seriously, would it have been broken if it just chucked a red die for an evade token? :wacko:
