ARC-170 preview article is up

Etahn + Accuracy Corrector + R3. That could be a tanky thing...

possibly silly, but I kinda like the idea of accuracy corrector and r3 on a knave for 32 points. stick decoy on some other ship and it all works out nicely. I know it's a bit forced, but might work well for rounding out a list with a useful tanky blocker.

haha we seem to have had very similar ideas at the same time :)

Do you see how specifically pointed out that each pilot normally flies one of the core 4 ships. I am so right about this it hurts.

While I agree we will eventually see them in their original (?) ships, there is no way FFG passes up on a money making opportunity and puts those cards on the back of these ones. They will just release a pack a year or so down the road and say "Remember how we mentioned the ARC-170 pilots flew other ships canonically? Well here they all are for $59.99!"

And we will be happy. :)

Definitely double sided.

Really wish FFG would stop releasing named pilots with no EPT

This this this this this. I could have sworn they learned their lesson and were even making sure every mid-PS generic was getting an EPT now (unless no pilots flying the ship were getting one).

Let's count how many non-EPT named pilots flying EPT available ships see top level play-

Biggs

....

...

..

.

Pretty sure that's basically it. I haven't put a lot of thought in to this, but I'm pretty sure I don't need to. The tragedies that are Arvel, Garven, Dutch and Horton, All the non-EPT Interceptors, Graz the Hunter, are well known.

Give them all EPTs FFG, unless they have godly abilities like Biggs. And heck, I don't even think Biggs with an EPT would be outrageous.

I would die of excitement if they did this. Each of these pilots flies a different ship, so we'd get 1 new pilot for each of the A, B, X, and Y. That would be awesome!

I don't think there is any doubt players would love it. It would be an awesome fist bump to the community too, but count me as very, very skeptical on FFGs willingness to do that for the reasons I mentioned above.

I'm probably not as experienced as everyone else but is there no good Pilot Skills out there?

I have been championing this idea since the original announcement. Obviously confirmation bias in my part but I can't help but feel there's a reason they specifically mentioned the ships each of them normally fly.

Can't use push the limit to drop a bomb.

Oh well, they can still fix it by including experimental interface instead ;)

it's an FFG tradition to not know how their bomb mechanics work, and then include some cool illustration of how the game does not work, in an effort to sell ships that don't work as advertised.

How could you not drop those with PtL?

Because while the dropping the bomb or the free barrel roll action from BB-8 will trigger PTL, the action PTL allows you to take must be in your action bar.

since BB-8 only allows you to take a barrel roll action, PTL will not let you drop the "action" bomb.

Ah, article specific.

not at all. You can never drop an action bomb with PTL. You can drop it with your normal action and then PTL to something on your action bar, but not the other way around.

You can also never drop a bomb if you haven't got a bomb slot on your upgrade bar (unless you're a Y-wing with Bomb Loadout). Norra has a torpedo slot, not a bomb slot...

(I hope FFG catches this - it'll require a total re-write of that section of the article, though...)

Edit: Nevermind. They have Sabine Wren aboard as crew. Darn these new "Rebels" whose abilities I don't yet know. Going to eat some humble pie for lunch.

Example has Sabine as crew, which grants the bomb slot ;)

EDIT...Darn, tooooooo slowwwwwwwwwwwwwww

sabine-wren-crew.png ;) Good card, Sabine Wren

LOL youre right i totally missed that. ARCs dont have bombs.

Am i the only one who thinks these pilot abilities are pretty meh? Seriously all of them seem so situational.

Thane Kyrell is pretty solid. A free action when an enemy within either of his firing arcs performs an attack is terrific. At a minimum, it's a free focused, target-locked attack against aces. With upgrades, he can perform a free Boost with R7-T1, get a free Barrel Roll with Vectored Thrusters, and then nab some free tokens with Lando or try to tag someone with a Saboteur.

It's worth noting that the target cannot be Thane for those shots, which I feel bumps him down a good notch.

I would die of excitement if they did this. Each of these pilots flies a different ship, so we'd get 1 new pilot for each of the A, B, X, and Y. That would be awesome!

As a thought exercise, which of these pilots abilities would best fit which existing Rebel ship?

Nice to see R3 Astromech continuing the proud tradition of making sure the Astromech slot is for R2D2 and R5P9 only.

Predator > Tail gunner always. Well...in most cases. ( nods at Kath)

We would get our first Rebel Y-wing with an Elite upgrade slot.

Thane's ability gives him a pseudo biggs ability. Its not requiring you to shoot at him but it is HEAVILY suggesting you do, especially if he hasnt shot yet

Fly Thane next to Biggs...

Braylen's does seem fitting for a B-wing. Thane would work best in something with lots of actions, so an E-wing maybe? Pretty much just as "meh" in an X-wing. Shara's ability seems pretty bad in an A-wing which wants to be defensive usually and really needs its target locks for its own mods when it gets them. She would be great in a VCX with weapons engineer and FCS, lol. And Norra in a Y-wing is also pretty "meh". Can't think of any ships her ability would be especially lethal on. Probably an A-wing for a massive Procket attack?

Not necessarily. Hera has an EPT in the attack shuttle but not in the VCX-100, so ships can change your ability to be an elite pilot apparently.

Good thing they fill different spots, eh? Dengar crew on the other hand...
