Chasing into the Woods

Hi all

just a clarification about some rules

in yesterday's gaming session, one of the player was caught by a 4-men squad of TIE while escaping from combat scene with a Skyhopper.

wisely, he did'nt try to fight the TIE and fled to a near forest/jungle

he spent 2 maneuver (1 for accelerate from 0 to 1, and one to move into the woods); he has to made a piloting roll with {R} difficulty (speed 1, sil/2 = 1; so easy with 1 upgrade). I also add a {setback} 'cause of woods

he luckily did the roll

TIE squadron (4 minion piloting TIE) pursuit him and did a piloting roll with {RRPPP} (speed 5, sil/3 = 2). Roll was unsuccessful so they got a minor collision and suffered Critical Hit. Being minion they got one loss

is that correct?

i mean: failing a piloting roll would mean a critical hit, but being minion that should mean one casualty?

or i had to roll for critical hit 'cause pilot are minion, fighter are not?

if pilot where willing to do an additional maneuver (maybe to decelerate) they had to spend 2 system strain? or 2 hull trauma, 'cause they are minion?

if they prefered to stay out of the wood and maybe shooting the skyhopper from safe "ground" they would have add one (or more) {steback} black dice to represent cover? (or it's enough assuming passive scan would detect skyhopper through dense foliage clearly enough to target without problem?)

they could use "gain advantage" or "stay focused" maneuver?

Just look at the TIE as an instrument, like the weapons, armors and so on, you also handling theire attak still as one, so ALL minionrules still apply! You just don“t use the woundthreshold of the pilot but instead that of the vehicles.

1. When a minion group gains an critical it's an auto-loss, the vehicle crashes in a tree, the pilot faints due to the g-powers and his vehicle rams into the ground and so on)

2. Minions are per RAW not able to suffer voluntary strain for maneuvers. They always only have one maneuver and one actions. They of course can change theire action for a second maneuver, in this case the vehicle it self will suffer systemstrain!! But nether the Wound nor the Hull trauma will go up.

2.1 If the minionvehicles are hit by something that inflicts Systemstrain, the vehicle will suffer this (following the same rules as the woundlimit or the Hull Trauma limit would be used just as a third nummeric) this is the one case where the vehicle minion differs from groundminions.

3. Yes of course will the terrain give some disadvantages/ set backs, the forrest with high trees, the canyon with many turns, the low hanging clouds and so on.

4. As long as the minions keep theire 1 maneuver/1 action or 2 maneuvers/0 actions limit the can use any maneuver that doesn't require a special talent.

No. Failing a piloting check does not mean a collision occurs (a despair might, but a simple failure does not).

If you turn to page 254 of your core book, in the upper right you'll find that a failed piloting check causes you to reduce speed by 1 and you don't reach your destination and/or adjust range bands relative to another object/vehicle.

If the TIEs had also rolled a despair, that could cause a collision and then yes, one would go boom.

Also don't forget to add Setbacks for terrain as well, this allows players to apply things like Skilled Jockey and All Terrain Driver, talents that not all NPCs will have.
