Kindred Fire - General Question Concerning Winning vs Losing

By any2cards, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

After my b-day extravaganza, and after recuperating from 12 hours of play, I decided I had to have me more of the old app play.

We had played through the Goblin intro, and decided to dive right into Kindred Fire, hardest difficulty level, etc.

Right near the end of the first quest, staring at a Moral of a Skull, we ended up having one of our heroes KO'd on a max offensive roll vs a min defensive roll.

So, we expected it to tell us we had lost (which it did), but then something odd happened ...

It just said that we fled the area, and we were back to the overland map, with the gold that we had accumulated so far, and with 1 XP.

I guess I had assumed that this game played like the Co-Ops. If you lost, you actually LOST, and had to begin all over again. In fact, that is the gist that I had taken from reading some of the other Kindred Fire threads.

Obviously, this is not the case. So my question is as follows: at what point do you actually lose, and the game ends? Is there ever such a point? Does it only happen if you get KO'd at a Moral level of a Skull in the very final quest?

Appreciate some feedback here. Thanks.

RTL works like a traditional campaign and not like the others Descent Co-ops. You lose only in the end (or sooner, if you do not succeed in some specific story missions ). You will see a screen with The End when reaching this point.

Exactly. In other words, you don't loose the full campaign but only the quest and proceed. However, you get less gold/XP/Fame if you loose the quest. I think there are also different story quests depending on whether you lost a previous story quest or not.

By the way, you can visit the city to recharge morale, but I think you know that already.

I can confirm that at least some of the main story quests will be different depending on whether you lost or won the previous story quest. I love how it really adds to the replay value of the campaign.

I can confirm that the story quests vary according to Win/Loss.

The side quests do not affect the story quests at all.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I appreciate it.

One clarifying question ... are there ANY story quests, etc. for the finale, that if you lose, you actually end the game?

I cant precise that, but one off my newbies groups lost a bunch of the quests (side quests and story) and the game ended with a lost in interlude quest (the third story quest if I remember correctly).

As a side note, if you lose the finale quest, you can reload the last save and restart the quest again.
