Maarek Stele and Major Hull Breach

By Dan4GS, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So this game in a tourny yesterday. I was flying Stele against a ghost which happened to receive Major Hull Breach as its first damage card (faceup, of course). Next turn Ghost can't get rid of the crit and Stele does 2 damage and 1 crit. Since major hull breach reads "All damage cards dealt to you are dealt faceup" and Stele reads "When your attack deals a faceup damage card to the defender..." does Stele then get to choose each of the crits deal or just the one crit rolled?

Our T/O ruled just the crit but I believe that was incorrect. Thanks for any replies!

Maarek's ability doesn't say "when your attack deals an unsheilded opponent an uncancelled critical hit result" (or words to that effect) it says, as you rightly point out "When your attack deals a faceup damage card to the defender..."

The MHB card says that all damage cards are dealt face up

Your attack therefore dealt 3 face up damage cards

Maarek's ability triggers 3 times

What does the damage card say? All cards are DEALT face up. When does Maarek work? When an attack deals face-up cards. You should have gotten to use the ability each time.

Do remember that it is still using the ability three times and not simply drawing nine cards and then picking three of them. Cards are dealt/drawn one at a time even if the process gets repeated multiple times.

Do the 2 other cards that don't get chosen return to the top of the pile or the bottom?

they are put in a separate pile of discarded damage cards - if you run out of damage cards you may shuffle then re-use them

Discard them, face-up like all discard damage cards, without effect. No deck stacking for you.

If one somehow runs out of cards in their damage deck the first solution is to take all of the discarded damage cards from destroyed ships and things like Maarek and just shuffle them back up to create a new DD.

Cool Cheers. I've not actually played anyone who knew that rule. Most times we just shoved discarded cards (from determination for example) to the bottom of the damage deck pile.

Oh with Determination I'm thinking you could find someone who might say "Please return them to the TOP of your damage deck." That way one could keep drawing it and returning it to draw it again.
