Does lack of old generics in aces packs bother anyone else?

By SgtSmithy, in X-Wing

Does kinda bother me, but I get it. Every ship token has a generic side, and an unique ace side. With only two new aces, that doesn't leave space for the old generics if they're also adding new generics.

Wait are we really complaining that the ACE packs and VETERANS pack come with too many ACE pilots......

The only problem I have with it only ever came up once, when playing mission 9: Jump to Subspace. My opponent flew two Saber Squadron pilots and a few other things in his squad. Whenever I killed a Saber Squadron Pilot, it respawn because he didn't have any Alpha or Avenger Squadron pilots. I still won, despite the never ending Saber Squadron Pilots. That issue hasn't come up since.

I am still very sad that Imperial Aces did not have alpha squadron pilots :(

They are in Rebel Aces, but not the imperial stuff. This is bc low pilot skill is terrible for ordinance and arc dodgers. A pilot skill 1 Interceptor in the Aces pack would not have done anyone any favors.

Hmm. Total waste of paper, it would be. Hmm, yes.

I'd say a more likely reason is that Imperial Aces and Imperial Veterans both created new generics in addition to new aces (Royal Guard, Glaive Squadron, Gamma Squadron Veteran) whereas Rebel Aces had no new generics in it.

No, its because they wanted to introduce new generics who took up space for the usual generics. That is really the only reason.

Its not as bad with Veterans, since you really want Glaives and Veterans, but on Imperial Aces it sucks. 5 Alpha Interceptors is an actually interesting list (or 4 with a shuttle). Aces is a good buy, so most people will need to buy ships they already own to run those lists.

Compared to having to buy craptons of ships I don't want (including some very high priced Epic-only ships) to get the upgrade cards you need, this barely even registers on the abuse-o-meter.

I recently started playing Imperials and Imperial Aces is on my short list of items to get. Even if I can't run any conceivable combination of pilots, it's worthwhile. I'm more worried about having to buy a $100 ship to make Vader playable, Starvipers I'll never field just to get their Autothrusters, needing lots of Crackshots, and so on with a long list of ships that are only there for cards. I really wish FFG would put out card packs or use their already-existing POD service to let us order the upgrades we want for a reasonable cost.
