Need help deciding on an appropriate ship....

By TheBoulder, in Game Masters

So, I want to give my group a freighter type ship to give them more freedom. The setting is that they discover a Separatist base, more of a glorified bolt hole for a wealthy Neimoidian noble who had a military commission.

What I'm looking for is a ship that would fit that they could then discover on the base and use. I was thinking the Baudo Class... But I'm not sure it fits.

Do you guys have any ideas? Please help! I'd love ideas that also have deckplans easily found, but that's a luxury. :)

The Baudo-class Star Yacht is a pretty fancy ship, and retail price is 250,000 credits. That’s considerably higher than the normal recommended price of 120,000 credits. It’s also not considered a freighter.

I gave my guys The Mighty Space Turtle. A slightly modified Ghtroc 720. A few love it. A few hate it. I call it GM revenge on my prankster PCs.

Sorry, I should clarify. We are several sessions in, and I'm looking for a ship that fits the story, rather than one that fits any kind of starting ship mechanic. So, the Baudo's cost isn't really a factor in my calculations. I'd just like a ship that fits the party size of four, and fits with the story. Something different, not a YT2400 or anything standard. If that makes sense.

Thanks for the links though! Much appreciated.

The HWK-1000 Freighter (from Fly Casual) could be a good choice. Requires two to fly, carries four passengers, carries a bit of cargo, 5 custom Hardpoints.

The Baudo-class is more of a luxury type ship but it could work.

There's also the Luxury 3000 from the EotE core book. That sounds like it would fit your campaign pretty good as far as I can tell. Suns of Fortune and Desperate Allies also have some good ones, like the J-type star skiff or the J-type diplomatic barge.

I always liked the HT-2200, but it is a giant whale. But for a good list of ships with decent deckplans, go to d6holocron, and under Downloads/Supplements check out Stock Ships from WEG. It has a dozen or so freighters with deckplans, descriptions, etc. A bunch are already converted to FFG.

Im a massive fan of the Wayfarer, with a fighter docked to the outside obviously :P

The ZH-25 Questor from FaD Core is nice. If you're going for a rich man's ship, the Naboo J-type star skiff from Suns of Fortune is great.

I'd suggest the Seltiss-2 Caravel (115 LoNH), the omnipresent but awesome Gozanti (58 FC, 277 E-CRB), the Citadel (260 E-CRB) or the WUD-500 (55 FC). Those are all pretty unusual ships (save for the Gozanti) that could easily be in the personal fleet of a wealthy Neimoidian. I'd throw Luxury Passenger Compartments (65 DA) and an Onboard Amenities Unit (63 FC) on whichever ship you decide for added "pop".

My crew has been flying around in a Mon Cal Simiyiar light freighter for a while since they lost their Wayfayer back on Dac.

I think I might end up going with a Gozanti. They have access to other people that could be crew and they seem to really enjoy the resource management side of things. Gozanti seems like a great middle ground between freighter and capital ship.

It certainly is, but be aware that the pilot role on such a vessel isn't all that glamorous. If you think of the ship more as a base than a vehicle--including in combat where much of the action will be swimming around the ship rather than the ship intself swimming through the action--then the Gozanti is great.

Yeah, that is an issue. Luckily, none of them are interested in piloting, so it should be easy to throw a NPC in there. :D
