Maybe for a future contest the guys could pick 8 very different lists (4 rebels and 4 Imperials) and let the voters decide? Maybe by that time we'll have another new faction or sub-factions to add even more variety?
SWA Commander Contest.
TIE/Fighters for the Imperial squadrons may seem droll, but it does mean that FFG only has to give out a Core Set to supply the squadrons if either of the fleet builds win ![]()
That being said ...
Congrats to the finalists! Your lists look fun.
On Adam Pye's list, what's the purpose of the Medical Team on the Yavaris?

Its going to take crits. its a nebulon.
Basically, its a 16/52 Chance to get a free hull point out of a critical hit, for a single point.

(Said the guy whose list didn't win...)
mostly just jelly that my fleet didn't get in ![]()
no one wanted to see four titled ships in a fleet I guess ![]()
edit: was the Jan + yt-1300 + b-wing blob ever a thing?
because I put that in the fleet thinking no one bothered to run those despite how awesome they are

I'd have liked to see a four ship four title fleet, for the record. Mine was similar to Caldais but added another GR-75 in lieu of the upgrades (Still not sure I'd trust the XX9, ACM, F-CT combo because I couldn't see it getting that much damage through to make use of both of them).
For the record, I don't think that anything is particularly derivative as the fleet requirements in addition to the judges stated requirements had a fair number of implicit restrictions anyway. Not saying anything negative per, I just wonder what a future contest might look like if they went with "Use any 1 ship and 1 squadron from the new wave," etc.
thought commander choice might've had something to do with it, because I defaulted to General D in order to fit 400 points of fleet into the list
but it was General D working with Mon Karren and Salvation and 3 B-wings, so there should've been happy-fun-time crits aplenty ![]()
Aye, it very likely does. Still not sure how I feel about Garm with a Rebel list that has less than 2 command 3 ships, or 3 command 2 ships. But the commander choice felt a little implicitly light given the dissimilarity in speeds. maneuvers, or command values between the two ships.
I went with General D bomber command and Keyan so, aye. Mon Karren, Salvation, lots of B's (add in BC and Farr and it's rerolling a whole lot for crit-happy-fun-times).

oh wait I figured it out
my winged turd had Blissex
which would've been seen as a **** move because he comes with the wingless Turd that FFG would've had to send to me if I won (even though I don't want another; Blissex is there because we have double brace and no defensive retrofit)
oops
I was in the 4 Title fleet. Mon Karren, Bright Hope, Salvation, and Yavaris. . . /sadAye, come join us on the other green team, Fickle: Team Envy!

great minds, man

Edited by ficklegreendiceNot too shabby, not too shabby at all.
Ah but fickle, Alexandra's fleet has 2 Q7's in it, so that's 2 ISD's or HMC's in addition to 2 OE's which means 2 Raiders minimum. Suddenly, Blissex/Tallon doesn't feel that extravagant. In the end, I don't think potential costs mattered much.

I guess we may never know what mattered ![]()
oh well, looking forward to see our new cool ships on the table
I think we can all agree it was 'no Demo'. ![]()
Aye, me too. Getting Wave III and Wave IV stuff on the table is going to be great. I'm even using my contest list first time out. Who cares if it didn't win, I'm gonna bloody well play it anyway. So nya!

I hear you. I had three titles, and if we're being honest, Lando is sort of like a one-shot title. If I had the points for Admonition you're dang skippy that would've been in there, but I also like Lando for keeping the point cost of the ship down.
Aye, totally with you there Cally, mate. Lando is very much like a one-shot title and if I could spare the points for Admonition then I'd have added it too. I'd have likely trid to scrape together a few points for the Liberty, to be honest given I made my list around non-centralization, I could lose any one ship and not feel hamstrung (still proud of that). Mon Karren is the better warship, but if you add it, Admonition, Yavaris, likely Bright Hope, we're talking 23 points in titles alone, 27 with Lando. That's a fully equipped GR-75 right there.
I rarely go anywhere without Lando in my Rebel lists so it's about cost cutting measures to get him in, and then trying to budget for Admonition if possible. It's not as critical as Demo is for a GSD, but it's about the closest the Rebels have to an equivalent 'include' title.
I love Lando, too. I think I've had Admonition in almost every single Wave 2 fleet I've made, just cause I find MC30s fun to fly. And while I think Mon Karren is awesome, I really feel that Liberty might be a sleeper hit, especially with the ability to take Flight Controllers and other shenanigans.
Congrats to everyone whos list made it in, and (pre-emptively) to whoever wins the random pick. It's nice to see some different fleets on the offer from the usual method.
Congrats to the winners!
Having said that I wish I would of gone with one of the several Imperial lists I mocked up. I am disappointed that we only have Tie fighters for the 2 imperial fleets as I thought an Interdictor Rhymerball fleet would have been very interesting. I'm rooting for the Devestator Fleet but I think the Rebel heavy squadron fleet will do well. The VSD's are interesting but I still think they will go down to an MC80 shooting at medium or long range. Making the MC80 go slower only plays into the Rebels hand shooting at longer ranges.
Also I am disappointed no commander chose a fleet with slicer tools. I was positive they would want to demonstrate its usefulness disrupting the enemies plans.
Congrats to the winners!

Thanks! And I wanted to work in slicer tools, but the points weren't there so I figured I would go with slicer tool defense instead.
I think I like Alexandra's the best too. The rest are really.... imo not that clever. And have glaring weaknesses.
Alexandra's has some weakness to squadrons, but at least she tried to give 6 squadrons for cover and the Interdictor should slow something down. Though, I don't think the VSDs will push out enough firepower to stop something really big.

Other than that, I'm really not impressed at all.

I'm not one for Rhymerballs in general, and getting the Interdictor is very expensive points wise, you are basically left with just TIEs if you want to maintain that many activations/deployments. If you must need to win the air war, going to a Howl/Soontir/Advanced/Int ball lets you punch up nicely for not much cost, and then any TIE's left over are just a bonus, but you also have to sacrifice one Gozanti to do that.
Also I can't even keep one Raider alive, so you'd have to look at someone else to brave slicer tools.
Congrats to the winners!

Does this mean you're the author of the finalist fleet with the Interdictor and Victories? If so, congratulations! Great list.
