I agree, Alexandra's list has one of the best advantages.
SWA Commander Contest.
I like the Fire Control Team/ACM/XX9 synergy on that MC30
Hoping that one of the number crunchers here can show the difference between this combo and the traditional OE/APT
You know what Fantasy Flight Games should do? Record this and post it on YouTube. Not only would it be fun to watch, but it might attract potential new players who have only seen tutorial/introductory videos.
Congrats to the winners! What makes me happy is that both Imperial lists are similar to the two lists I made for the contest (and had to pick between the two). The only real difference was the Fighter and some choices.
Just makes me happy to know I'm in the ball-park with some other good fleet idea thinkers.
Edited by Derpzilla88Well, I wasn't trying to be derivative. I just wanted to stuff as many squadrons as I could into my fleet lol. I like carriers. Adam Pye
Great lists, congrats to the winners. My fleet was extremely similar to the ISD fleet except I used Konstantine and was a bit more "balanced"... So I can see why using Vader and Devastator won over mine (for example).
Yeah, I wasn't trying to be derivative either. I submitted my list the first day the contest went live, I just really wanted to see if I could make a fun MC30 build that deviated from the normal Wave 2 setups.
I like the Reb lists - the mc30 one has a nice mix of elements i'd not really considered before. I went for a more traditional/ obvious jousting list, but the winners here have got me thinking maybe my lists are a little to formulaic.
I think the fleets are fine. No complaints here.
I mean, they gave a pretty good "brief" in the competition rules and the winners look they all responded to it very specifically.

I'd agree that they are fine, but I would have liked to have know that it was a requirement to field a Yavaris in the rebel list. ;p
Edited by KubernesGiven that my list was almost exactly the same as James Lockwood's list but swapping Vader, SW7s, and Repair Crews for Tagge, Leading Shots, Comms Net and Mauler I'm a little surprised to see that anyone else would have chosen this ship/squadron combo.

Congrats all. I personally like the 'only 3 ships' nature of your fleet Pain. Very Star Wars.
For Alexandra's fleet, I couldn't help but feel that I'd seen it over on the comp list thread.

I could say the same except I swapped Vader, SW7s and repair crews for Suppressor, comms net, motferrat, slicer tools and Konstantine and Ion cannons on the interdictor. Squadrons I had 4 Ties and a Firespray to mop up.
Definitely like the lists. I'm glad to see that I was headed in the right direction when I was toying with Liberty ideas.
As a whole, I'm excited to see how well Alexandra's fleet holds up. I realize now that her list seems to have filled holes I didn't see in my list, all by dropping from VSD-IIs to VSD-Is and swapping/adding a few upgrades and a squadron with the extra points. I'm just happy that a fleet with 2 VSDs made it to the semifinals. Kinda had an initial feeling that they would combo well.
It is a little sad that it seems like the VSD-II might join the Glad-II on the "not-worth-the-extra-points" shelf though, but that's another topic already on the forum.
I predict that Alexandra Smith's fleet will win.
I agree
Being new to the game (I have a starter box and played one game) I didn't even try a list.
As someone who really likes the Victory but really hates it's slowness, it's great to see how combining it with other ships and their upgrades helps mitigate some of the downsides to fielding it.
I'd of gone Victory-II, with Enhanced or Spinal Armaments, and Gunnery Team. But that's hardly sage wisdom from a newbie among newbies.
Adam Pyes list will win.
Simply because it has first player with a battle cruiser or yavaris scurrgs
I like Adam's chances as well.
Thanks for the vote of confidence, guys! As far as the one post where the poster said he was too new to enter, never think that! I haven't been playing long, get crushed by my friend (who got me into the game) all the time, but my entry made it and his did not. Why did the developer like my squadron entry over his or others? I have no idea. Fortune favors those who actually enter the contest. I'm just glad I had some good fortune on my side.
Congrats to the winners. Can't wait to see these things shoot each other to death.
I'm not at all surprised that many of us thought along the same lines. The requirement was to include either a Liberty/GR-75 or an Interdictor/Gozanti, and to make it work well. When easily a third of your fleet is prescribed, it's all about what you do with the rest of it. So I'm most excited of all about the Vader fleet. I can't predict if it will pull it all off, but I do so want to see an entire 400 points channeled into his big badness.
I'm also relieved to see Demolisher and Rhymer sidelined in this contest. These contest fleets look like the movies, and that's exactly what I want.
I wish I knew ahead of time about the "no Demolisher" rule when I entered.
Wait what? Is this for real?
No, it isn't a real thing...
But a couple of the designers did state they were looking for new and interesting interactions with the new rules... Demolisher is so point-and-click that it probably didn't fit under that heading.

Two things. 1) because you need to punch at least 2 damage through for XX9 to matter, you want to be hitting something that has low shields already or you need to get off several shots, whereas APT works immediately every time you trigger it against any target. 2) No OE means if you don't roll crits, you're out of luck.
I think if you get the right rolls against the right targets, this load out is devastating. If you get some cold dice or can't find the perfect shot, though, it'll fall on its face a lot harder that the traditional combo.

I think I like Alexandra's the best too. The rest are really.... imo not that clever. And have glaring weaknesses.
Alexandra's has some weakness to squadrons, but at least she tried to give 6 squadrons for cover and the Interdictor should slow something down. Though, I don't think the VSDs will push out enough firepower to stop something really big.

Other than that, I'm really not impressed at all.

Herewith list allows for those TIEs to stay close to home and be protected while at the same time they can be dangerous enough to intercept TIE bomber Rhymerballs
With Bomber Command Center coming out soon, we just may see TIE Fighters becoming a solid counter to the increase of TIE Bombers and Y-Wings.
I sense Easy being excited for Y-Wings again
