I was one of the (apparently) hundreds of thousands of people competing for the (apparently) five tickets to X-Wing Worlds. Needless to say, I didn't win the internet lottery and get one. I did manage to snag a ticket for Imperial Assault though--but this whole experience has left a sour taste in my mouth. And has me rather concerned.
I'm not a super competitive player. I'm actually surprisingly good at IA, but I'm nowhere near Worlds class. If I go to Worlds, it will be for the experience, not with any intention of winning. Also, the $1,000+ it will cost me to attend is a significant amount, for me. I had pretty much decided that for both X-Wing and IA, it would have been worth it. For IA alone? I'm not so sure.
And then there was this complete cluster@* of a registration process. If they can screw up registration this badly, what can I expect from the Worlds event itself? I currently don't have much faith that I would even enjoy the experience. I have a few weeks yet to decide whether to get a refund, and I will be contacting FFG directly later with my questions, once this mess dies down a little.
But for now, my question to the forum is this: for those that attended Worlds in 2015, what was it like? Was it great fun? Tolerable but the prestige made it worth it? As completely a @*up as the registration process but if you want to win just grit your teeth and go? Something else entirely?
For example, I want to attend the Hangar Bay event on Sunday. Judging by this experience though, I will have to wait in line at 10pm the previous evening, sleeping in a tent on the street, to even have a chance at playing in that Hangar Bay.
I guess what I'm asking is: as a reasonably good, but mostly casual player looking for a fun experience...am I the wrong person for Worlds?
