Whats in the box!!

By tenchi2a, in The Force Awakens Beginner Game

So I'm just wondering as the title said what is in this box set, and what will make it worth spending the cash.

1. galaxy map ? we did see this in the first post but it has vanished from the updated post.

2. stats for the new equipment and units? not sure here, would depend on the adventures setup.

3. new force power/s? highly unlikely but would at least make the set useful.

4.some back ground on the New Republic/First order? again looking at the past installments of the Beginner games this would be limited if not absent.

with out some if not all of these included in the set, There would be limited to no replay-ability to this set.

So assuming it lacks most of the proceeding items what does this box set offer that would make it work as a starter box.

1. it would be a great way to get new player who are excited by the new movie, but would leave you nowhere to go from there.

2. it has little to no bearing on the current line of books

3. and finally, seem to be a cash grab by either FFG or Disney to cash in on the new movie without any real work.

now don't get me wrong I have every Star Wars Rpg book that FFG has put out so far, but will need some real convincing for reviews/FFG that this book is worth the price.

What's in the box?

What's in the box?

well some one got the reference already.

Good question

... 1. galaxy map ? we did see this in the first post but it has vanished from the updated post. ...

That map, which is probably the biggest enticement for getting this expansion, has been in and out several times from the articles. I wonder if there is something else they are considering in its place.

I for one am interested to see how the plot in this scenario connects with Episode VII and, more importantly, some elements that are hinted at during the last parts of Aftermath: Life Debt .

Why the eye roll? What - you expected something other than the exact same beginner box template we've seen three times now? Hell, I could give you the breakdown of the canned adventure and have a 75% chance of accuracy. The game starts with you showing off a skill (hide, climb something), there's a non-ranged encounter, a convince/talk to someone encounter, a break where the GM gives out experience points, a ranged combat encounter, a nemesis/rival encounter and some kind of vehicle interaction.

This not a spoiler to anyone who has been paying attention.

Here's what I want to know: Are there going to be +2 PDF characters? If so, are they going to be F&D based?* One of the PCs is a species we don't have yet, and the video reviewer said he wants to leave some surprises in, so did they slip the species stats into the rulebook or will they release it at a later date?

*This would make sense, seeing as its trying to tie together the three product lines, and 2 of the PCs are AoR careers and 2 are EotE careers..

After watching that you tube review did anyone wonder how to set the other beginner games in the same era as this one?

It's easy to do era conversions. Name swaps are the only usual requirements. Vehicles can be swapped or renamed as necessary.

I know that FFG said they weren't putting out another core rulebook, but I'd really like an additional TFA Sourcebook or two (and even an adversary deck) to flesh out some of the new locations, characters and equipment.

That does seem appropriate.

In case nobody noticed, officially available tomorrow in the US.

Is it? Huh. Who could have called that?

Sadly, I may have to wait a bit to get it. I'm moving my purchases from the nearby comics/game store to a new location of my preferred comic store, where the manager (the owner's son) is trying to build a gaming customer base. Since he's new to ordering the Star Wars gaming items, he's basically on the "standby" list for when ore-orders are filled by his distributor. Sure, I could just go buy it at the nearby store, but my preferred store has earned my loyalty many times over the decades, and I'd rather give them my business.

That's the way to do it :) ! Good on you, Nytwyng!

Not on Amazon though.

If anybody picks this up sometime soon, feel free to divulge the details. No pressure, or anything, but remember I (probably) know where you live and I know a guy who knows a guy.

It'll be interesting to see if this is available for sale at GenCon.

Just saw this has been released today, can anyone answer a couple things for me;

1. It kind of pissed me off when Kylo Ren froze the blaster bolt in mid air, at the beginning of tFA, as there was absolutely no precedence for such a feat. Do you all think this is just movie-making f***ery, or is there a Power that could be considered to replicate the effect (Protect)? Just use GM/narrative fiat to describe its results as such?

2. Are there rules for Ren's cracked crystal and/or light-claymore?

Figured this box set is the most likely place they'd be....

You're probably not going to find answers to either of those, since a Beginner Box's intent is to bring new players into the system, and neither of those two are relevant to the adventure, which from the sounds of it takes place just before the events of the film.

Thanks. I've been a customer of theirs for longer than the son managing the new location has been alive. (****, that makes me feel old.) Sure, the game store is closer and maintains a stock of the RPG books, but I'd rather support people who've treated me awesomely and provide a personal touch, as opposed to someplace where I'm just another faceless consumer.

Since he's trying to build a gaming customer base, and seems interested in the Star Wars system, I'm thinking of asking him if he'd be interested in me coming in once a month or so and running one of the Beginner Games in their game room, to see if it sparks some interest in the system among his customers.
