Epic clarifications

By chilligan, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So we're going to have another Epic tournament soon, so I wanted to get some things clarified for myself and for the other participants.

1) Epic ships can only equip one modification, right?

2) Epic modifications affect the entire ship, aka I can get the free reinforce either from the Aft section or the Fore, e.g. an aft section of the CR90 can use WED-15 repair as an action, then reinforce, or it can reinforce after a TL on the fore? Aka does Ordnance Tubes give me the ability to put ordnance on both sections?

3) Is the modification assigned to a section or the ship? Does the modification disappear once a certain section is crippled?

4) Can Bobba Fett discard a modification after dealing a facedown damage to either section?

5) Can Juke modify the reinforce evade result? Or is that considered to be "dice modification", and as such occurs after the Juke timing? (expecting no)

6) After a Fore section has been crippled, can that Epic ship ram anything and not get any damage? (expecting yes if you ram with Fore)

7) After a Fore section has been crippled, is the blue line rule still applicable when targeting the Aft section? (expecting yes)

8) When bumping an Epic ship against another Epic while doing a bank baneuver, do you just slide it back until it fits? (guessing yes)

9) If an Epic is touching the base of another Epic, can you still fire from the other section into the Epic ship you're touching? (guessing no)

10) Obstacles have to be placed in pairs "within range 1" of one another. Some obstacles are quite large (thinking of the epic debris). We've so far dealt with placement like this: from one point of obstacle 1, obstacle 2 has to be fully within range 1. From one point of obstacle 2, obstacle 1 has to be fully within range 1. Is this condition necessary and sufficient for this rule?

11) Do you have any restrictions for obstacle placement with regards to non-player edges? (AFAIK no)

12) If the Gozanti launches a ship and that ship executes a 5 forward, is that ship in range 2 of the Gozanti? (5 forward == distance 2) I'm thinking of Targeting Coordinator for a Bomber doing a 5-k.

13) Can different sections perform the same action? E.g. can Recover be done twice (with Automated Protocols), which means 2 extra shields for 1 extra energy on Instigator?

14) Can I mix TIE Fighters and TIE/fo Fighters on the Gozanti, since they are considered to be the same type?

15) Is the TIE Advanced Prototype a TIE Advanced? (guessing no for now, no FAQ ruling on that)

16) Does the Dual Laser Turret on the Gozanti have the same blue line restrictions as the CR90 turret? (dunno, but the Gozanti manual doesn't mention that)

17) Is the Blue line rule applicable only to turret shots? E.g. can the Raider's Aft make a shot if the target's corner is in the firing arc, but peg to peg line crosses the blue line?

18) Can I deploy 4 ships with the Gozanti without the special title if I have Admiral Chiraneau? (by executing a maneuver twice, and deploying 2 each time)

3: There's no clear rule on this, but for scoring purposes we've let people decide at list-building time which section the modification is on.

5: A Reinforce token would be resolved in "Defender Modifies Defense Dice", so too late for Juke to do anything.

6: Yes

7) After a Fore section has been crippled, is the blue line rule still applicable when targeting the Aft section? (expecting yes)

8) When bumping an Epic ship against another Epic while doing a bank baneuver, do you just slide it back until it fits? (guessing yes)

9) If an Epic is touching the base of another Epic, can you still fire from the other section into the Epic ship you're touching? (guessing no)

8: That's how I would do it.

9: I think not, but it would be worth grepping the most current Epic rules for "touching" to make sure there isn't a specific exception for multi-section or multi-card ships.

10) Obstacles have to be placed in pairs "within range 1" of one another. Some obstacles are quite large (thinking of the epic debris). We've so far dealt with placement like this: from one point of obstacle 1, obstacle 2 has to be fully within range 1. From one point of obstacle 2, obstacle 1 has to be fully within range 1. 11) Do you have any restrictions for obstacle placement with regards to non-player edges? (AFAIK no)

11: Don't think so, no.

12: That's a dirty trick, and I approve, but absent criminally sloppy maneuvering or a post-maneuver repositioning action (which of course the stress from the Koiogran would preclude), I see no way that something placed at the other end of a 5 straight template could be considered at Range 2 of the other end of the template.

Maybe we've finally found a reason to put Adrenaline Rush on Tomax Bren?

13) Can different sections perform the same action? E.g. can Recover be done twice (with Automated Protocols), which means 2 extra shields for 1 extra energy on Instigator?

14) Can I mix TIE Fighters and TIE/fo Fighters on the Gozanti, since they are considered to be the same type?

15) Is the TIE Advanced Prototype a TIE Advanced? (guessing no for now, no FAQ ruling on that)

14: They are not considered to be the same type. They both satisfy the "TIE Fighter" condition, but they're not the same type, so while you can dock either with Docking Clamps, you can't mix them.

15: The TIE Adv.[antageous] Prototype is not a TIE Advanced. There is, in fact, a FAQ ruling on this, if you're willing to accept the rulings on TIE/x1 and TIE/v1 as precedent.

(Anybody reading this who would like to argue about whether the TIE Adv.[ertising] Prototype should be able to equip TIE/x1 is encouraged of avail themselves of one of the many other threads about that topic.)

12. Yes. When measuring range the nubs are part of the base, and the distance between them will be less than the 5 straight template.

Oops. That'll teach me to answer from memory while waiting at the chip shop.

Thanks for the answers. I just re-read the huge ship rules, and it specifically says that titles and modifications stay on crippled sections. So as far as I'm concerned, you could argue that you don't put the modification on a section, you put it on the ship.

Played 3 more practice games this evening (I know, we were pretty fast), got one more:

19) If a Huge ship with a crippled section lands on an asteroid such that the blue line is directly above it, can the player choose to suffer damage on the crippled section? (guessing yes)
