EPIC - 300 point Rebel Fleet with CR90 - Sanity Check

By LagJanson, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Sanity Check Required.

I want to fly Rebel. I have seriously never used this corvette and I love the rebel fighters. Trouble is I can't build the CR90 like a Raider. The only new mod card I have is the Ordnance Tubes.

My goal here is to NOT make the CR90 a giant money pit. Fly the Gold and Jan Ors close as point defense. The combination of sensor team, Solo, CR90 and Ors makes that one attack a 6 red accurate burst out to range five and when targets are closer than the guns can target Toryn Farr renders them helpless for fighter escort.

Where it falls down: the CR90 is still 115 points and it's not doing anything. The escort doesn't even seem that impressive. I can nearly double the corvettes guns by deleting the TLT from Jan Ors and tossing an ion battery on. Makes Jan less a target.

Is this worth testing? Or has sanity failed me?

I'd definitely add eg a Quad Laser onto the corvette.

So far, I like using both the big ships in 400pt games, but the smaller ones (Gozanti and Transport) only in 300pt lists. Unless you get an agreement with your opponents that they will field the same number of huge points.

Agreed. Played one 400 point game and it really felt more open to build the capital ship and include the escort. I think I can do a better list with the transport at 300 but I feel dirty doing it. Epic points are 0-6 so the CR90 feels about right.

Alright. I will pull of Jan Ors TLT in exchange of a quad.

Autoblaster turrets instead of the TLTs? Imperials have a lot green dice - dependent shipsand if your turrets are kept close to the corvette to protect it, they might be really useful. Or never shoot because the enemy stay away.

I really want a turret that works at all ranges!

Autoblaster turrets are definitely cheaper but so easy to dodge and avoid. Range 1 limitations...

Could drop the TLT from the Y-Wing and put Dorsal turrets on both the Hawk and the Y-Wing. That said, 2 Red is decidedly unimpressive against said Imperial fighters. Turret choices are very limited indeed.

It's actually pretty tough to balance an epic fleet to face unknown opponents. More so, I think, than standard tourney lists.

I think I'll run it as last posted and see the results. I'll build or modify from there. Worse case scenario, it gets trounced and I put the corvette on the shelf and continue to fly Imperial.

Well it won...only used the quad once on the final turn.

Faced a loaded CR90, a CR75 support ship, Lothal Rebel and two Green squads.

The good.

Love that six red primary attack with Jan's support. The Ghost died fast as I scored five hits on two straight turns of fire. Third turn wasn't quite as good, but it was enough to finish the job.

Rebel fighters everywhere. Protos made great blockers that jammed up his few fighters.

The bad.

Well, I wasn't doing much once I got close. Toryn wasn't used at all as I had the fighter screen dead before my CR90 closed.

Ionization reactor caused hilarity. My fighters were lined up on the nose of his Cr90, at least five. As I tried to break off to prevent being run over he fired the reactor and caught three fighters. Two were crushed by our Corvettes the following turn.

Yeah... I'm feeling like the CR90 needs either automated protocols or optimized generators to work... Guess I could missile it up though...
