First Foray into Painting

By Lord Citrus, in Imperial Assault Painting and Modification

Hello fellow Imperial Assaulter's

I very recently picked up Imperial Assault and after the first mission decided that the plain base models wont do for this awesome game. So I am starting to paint the core set (and Boba Fett....as he is Boba Fett). I have never painted before so thought I would share some photos and venture into the IA forum community.

I painted six of the stormtroopers and the two E-Web (thought their picture did not turn out).

Citrus

That's pretty good for your first shot at painting! The thing that might help a bit is thinning your paints down just a little more. This does mean you have to paint multiple layers for an even coverage, but the end result will be a lot smoother!

Keep it up!

So another attempt at painting, I decided to go with the Imperial Guard and Probe droids as they looked more simplistic to start honing my skills. I am pretty happy with how they turned out. The tip about thinning paint defiantly helps, though need to practice to get the right consistency.

Next is going to be the imperial officers!

Looking good Citrus. Keep it up and keep posting.

Looks really good man. I will echo the statement about thinning the paints for the Storm Troopers. Your first run looks a lot like mine, the second time around I thinned my paints down and really paid attention to brush control and it makes a big difference in the detail that survives multiple layers. It also helps to be liberal with the nuln oil.

Here are my three officers that I painted on the weekend. (sorry for the bad photo but didn't have good lighting when I was running out the door this morning)

Decided to go with a lighter gray look as I wanted the glove and belt to stand out. Overall I am feeling better applying the paint, as I can see improvement from my first attempt at my troopers. I am excited to go back for my final three.

Very good work! I would suggest that you consider making or buying a wet palette as this will ensure that your paints are properly thinned all the time (there are youtube videos on making wet palettes from a few household items)

Of course, also check out Sorastro's tutorials on YouTube.
