Potential future expansion idea.

I am a huge fan of Descent: journey into darkness second edition. I recently downloaded the app and have been very impressed. This post however, is regarding a potential expansion that Fantasyflightgames may want to consider in the future if you haven’t already. I call it “the tinkering expansion.” This expansion would introduce a gnome hero class that focuses on making and using gadgets and devices that they themselves have designed. I.E. the tinkerer background that gnomes can choose in the D&D rules. Basically a craftsman who makes contraptions and trinkets to aid themselves and their allies in combat. Furthermore, the expansion could also introduce a dwarf engineer who more modern weaponry. The monsters for the expansion could be constructs made by the tinkering gnomes and dwarves that have gone rogue. Or possibly they are the creations of an evil gnome/dwarf. Heck, even goblins have traditionally been tinkerers in fantasy lore, maybe a goblin could have created these walking contraptions of doom. Now I am fully aware that Descent is set in a fantasy realm; however, many fantasy settings have helped to further flesh out their worlds by having some races be more technologically inclined than others. This has historically been dwarves, goblins, and gnomes. I would love to see this introduced into their already amazing game. Thoughts?

Don´t know... it doesn´t seem right. I get the idea and I too like universa with technologically advanced races, but Terrinoth is not the case. Goblins and primitives with archers and shamans, so they are kind of out of picture. Dwarves seems to have badass forged weaponary, but nothing sophisticated. The most technological progress I´ve seen are what seems to be magnifying glasses, or eye shield that Ulma Grimstone uses.

Sounds like this could be an idea for a new hero class. The only potential "issue" from a thematic perspective is that if you wanted to craft things based on stuff you loot as you go in the dungeon, then it would imply a certain redesign of the game for finding materials, ore and whatnot.

The idea sounds interesting, but I agree that it might not fit thematically. Also, which archetype would be a thinker? Healer? Mage? Doesn't see to fit in my opinion. A fifth archetype maybe? But that would turn the whole game upside down.

In addition to that I believe that FFG will proceed by creating more Hybrid classes. Four are confirmed for 'The chains that rust' and it's clear that there are many more options available. We'll see what we get

Ah, sure. Tomorrow FFG will start to develop OUR ideas ;)
