[Scum] Does R5-P8 earn his points

By janusgeminus, in X-Wing Squad Lists

R5-P8, or more affectionately known as Pistol Pete, costs 3 points. Statically speaking, there is a fairly high probability of his ability triggering and causing damage. But in my experience, the dive good and probabilities in two separate world.

Anyone out there using this guy. I was running him on my Dengar list as an added deterrent from shooting at Dengar. Now I'm wondering if I'd just be better off with an overclocked R4 and glitterstem instead.

Thoughts, experiences, preferences?

It probably depends on your Dengar build, but both R4 and glittestem make you take stress which can be a bit of a pain if you are taking PTL or EI already.

I've only flown against him a couple of times, on Dengar, but he definitely made up his points in both battles. Four hits total, only one damaging himself as well, killed a z95 and knocked shields off Kavil.

It's won a couple games for me. I even took a risk one game with us both having one hull left and rolled a hit.

My goal is to make people gave to choose who'd be a better choice to shoot at. The guy who'll minimize your damage and then pass it off, or the guy who's going to return fire with proton torpedoes.

Just not sure if this is the more efficient build, or if a overclocked might get me more out if his points.

Depending on the wording and cost of Fearless(ness), I'm thinking that Fearless, Autoblaster Turret, and R5-P8 might be a ton of fun on Kavil.

I hadn't even noticed it looks like an exact mirror of the title right next to it. Neat. Not sure Pistol P8 is really part of a combo, though.

I'd say yes. It makes him more or less impossible to kill with a single low-hull ace, which means that aces basically have to nuke R5P8 first and accept the loss of probably at least one ship doing it.

Dengar with R5P8 is incredibly annoying.

It also probably depends on what the meta looks like in your area. Against aces like Soontir he's going to be the most effecient 3 points in your list. Probably less so against something like a ghost or decimator.

He earns his points every time, 50% of the time

Rillest thing I've read all day

Today I felt like he earned his points. Albeit he rolled a crit that took Dengar Ave omega leader off the table. That was a serious wtf moment.

I had been running a list with these two, and while it is a good list, it can easily be taken down by focusing Dengar down early and ignoring Xizor. R5-P8 and Dengar is a powerful combo and can trick less experienced players into shooting Xizor. Veteran players will not be so easily swayed.

I had 3 test games with him on Dengar, worked really well, Soontir does not want to risk 1/3 of his health shooting at him. In those 3 games, I rolled a lot of hits. Took him to a tournament, 5 blanks in a row, 6th Try a crit... He really is a scummy droid. Love it to bits.

I'm thinking it's just too inconsistent. There were some games where wins were only possible because R5 triggered. Then in other games, nothing, or worse, a crit...

If I continue with this current list, I may switch to overclocked.
