Conversion of money from 2nd edition

By supergoblin, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Hi,

how would you handle the conversion of prices and money from 2nd edition? Everything now is a lot cheaper to purchase, especially the more expensive items. So it seems normal that the income of the players should decrease. What guidelines do you use in your campaigns ?

It's not really "cheaper", it's just that the entire economy has been reworked to base on silver instead of gold. 1 gold crown is a LOT of money now.

As for conversion rates, it's a little difficult because the ratios of the various coins to each other have changed, but the system I've been using is as follows:

- everything priced in brass pennies stays the way it is without changes

- everything priced in shillings has its price multiplied by 0,48 and is priced in both pennies (for values under 25 or uneven) and in shillings (increments of 25 pennies)

- everything priced in gold crowns has its price multiplied by 9,6 and is priced in shillings now

- anything priced over 100 shillings after above adjustments is priced in gold crowns.

That's about it. I know it's a hassle to count while playing, so I'd recommend converting the entire pricelist you're using and all of PCs' wealth in one go. Also, while at it, you may want to consider switching to CapnZapp's modified pricelists (available on his page, I believe) and converting them to v3 instead of the prices from OWA. They are just plain better and much more reasonable.

Thanks for the info. I have looked up the price sheets of CapNZap, and might convert them to the new system.

It is a bit of a shame that the prices of everything changed. It makes using the previous source books a bit harder than it should be. I don't really understand the reasoning behind this change, but I am sure somebody thought this through :)
