Defender counters?

By screamformechicago, in X-Wing

probably the best use i got out of tractor beam was abusing the ability to change targets when firing primary weapon.

I threw a bwing that was in my face to the side right into my 4tie swarm. He fired before the ties but after me, he lost his shot on me and i just attacked his HWK that was behind him with my main gun...while the 4ties once their turn came up just devoured this now 0agi bwing lol.

practical? nope. Funny as hell though throwing a bwing to the wolves.

Ruthlessness is also amazing with the tractor beam.

Beam 'em, chuck 'em, zap their friend. Blast 'em, zap their friend. Quite a bit of damage for a gun that does no damage.

I might need to squeeze in a bit more ion somewhere...

That actually isn't too bad. I think I'd probably drop the Pirate's missile and leave it a dedicated blocker, though, and then spend the extra points elsewhere. Int Agent isn't that much help on a list with only one ps-dependent option (the ion bomb), and there are just so many shiny other picks for that crew slot...

Problem is, too many of the awesome scum crew have antisynergy with Dace's ability. Outlaw Tech and Zuckuss? stress. 4Lom? cant clear stress. Boba? Ion turret cant crit. Bossk prevents Dace from being able to use his ability on the ion turrets of the Ywings.

Gonk is a possibility, as is Dengar. K4 has some synergy with clearing stress every round. And that's about it.

K4 and Dengar are both pretty attractive options there, mind - helping keep the Ion Turret accurate (because you need to hit to deal the bonus damage, after all).

Gonk could be interesting - the list has Dace screaming 'shoot me first', so it might be a halfway usable method of giving him psuedo-evades for a few turns. You're right though that Dace has yet to have The Perfect Crew appear just yet. Sabine would've done well. ;)

Oh, and Flechette Torpedoes are only 2 pts and will give them stress.....as well as 3 red dice with no range bonus. Also good vs. Aces. A lot of people haven't really looked at Flechette Torpedoes enough.

Not really sure about Defenders on the whole, but I can say with utter confidence that the ones I've been flying literally do not care about stress in the slightest.

Oh c'mon, it costs them a Focus token... ;)

Yeah with mk.ii losing stress is no longer a defender problem, Ryad with her sweet ability has 14 moves to lose stress.

Frankly vessery has no stress issues when his team has TL .

Only pilot hurt by stress would be maarek with calculation but he can roll natural crits anyway.

Lots of attack dice. As many as you can fit on the table.

Admittedly, that's pretty much my counter for everything ...

A big enough hammer, and nails, and all that.

Why do you need nails when you have a hammer?

I think he's referencing the phrase "when you have a big hammer, all the world looks like a nail."

They can't spend evade tokens, but it's usually naked attack dice since your action is going to be TL. 4 naked attack dice, but still naked attack dice. And I can't tell you how many times I've had a Phantom have his target in range 1 and thought "I don't need to focus, I've got 5 dice to get one damage through to kill this guy." Focus, Focus, Blank Blank Blank.

The only person I'd use this combo with is Tomax since he can reuse Crack Shot, otherwise it's 6 points to 2, maybe 3 damage which seems kind of pricey. Against, Inquisitor it might be worth it, but it's a waste against a Defender or OL (since you can't focus even if you've got one).

Nah homing missile is never naked dice (except v omega obviously)

Hi rerolls!

Which is why it's about the only ordnance I'll ever use unless I'm rocking prefaq redline or jumpmasters in general

Just to drive the point home: you need a TL for homing missile, but you're not spending that TL to launch it, so you can reroll.

Good point, but that still makes them a bad value against OL since you don't get to make that reroll.

Was thinking about this missile, question is, are dice classed as tokens?? Meaning, does he get to roll his dice and use them?? Or are they also classed as tokens??

He gets to roll his dice, but cannot spend Evade tokens.
