AT-ST Achievement Unlocked

Double AT-ST deployed in the same mission together on the map at the same time. Mission was Predator and Prey, threat level 5. Deployed the first AT-ST at the end of turn 1, then the second one at the end of turn 3 along with an elite Probe Droid. They both stayed on the board until the end of the mission (though Boba did not survive longer than a turn) and it was awesome. Had never actually fielded the walkers IRL in a game before, campaign or skirmish, so I made it my goal in this mission to bring out both at the same time.

Just used one for the first time myself last night. Used it on canyon run to block off one of the barricades so they had to fight it. Maybe not the most point efficient, but they tough and pretty fun. Running two is now my new goal.

Did you win the mission?

You should be ashamed of yourself! That is one of the hardest missions for the Heroes as it is!

What? Serious? I beat it pretty handily when I was playing rebels.

Yeah! My opponent barely made it and that was with legendary status!

I was 1 square short of getting the cargo to the extraction point. I think if I had been more focused on winning the mission, I could have gotten the lose movement point I needed, but Rebel morale was very low at this point after they had suffered 5 losses in a row, so I decided to focus more on just doing awesome stuff and seeing what the walkers could do and enjoy seeing them both on the table.

As for how they played, they were very strong as long as I could give the rebels a reason to stay within LOS range to them. While that cargo was still in the middle of the map and the rebels had to stand there and protect it, I shredded them, doing 6-8 damage each time I attacked. And aside from Verena who had the most powerful boosted attacks, they sometimes struggled to deal damage through the armor.

However once the cargo was out of the middle of the map and Verena, their only unwounded hero, double-moved around 2 corners, the walkers were too slow to keep up with her. I think strategically it's much better to have one controlling a key area and then smaller units spread out to cover hiding spaces.

Remind me, what are the rule limitations on identical units in the campaign?

You are limited to the number of figures (and deployment cards) in the core box and one of each expansion unless specified otherwise by the expansion. (Like you can use both deployment cards of Hired Guns and ISB Infiltrators, i.e. two packs worth of figures, and the Stormtrooper villain pack does not increase the available Stormtroopers you can use.)

The General Weiss expansion tells to add deployment cards to the supply, so it seems like you can wield two AT-ST at the same time. I don't think it's a very efficient use of threat though. (Unless I missed some fine print when I skimmed the rulesheet yesterday.)

With the General Weiss pack, and confirmed by FFG, there's no limit at all in AT-STs, except for the fact that generating enough threat would be difficult. With the side missions allowing double threat at the start and the rebels taking a high value ally, like Chewie, it might be possible to field 3 of them by the end of the mission. But yeah, inefficient use of threat, a couple squads of troopers and heavy troopers would be better.

Well, there is a limit of 2. You can't add more than one General Weiss expansion.

You might be able to have 3 if you have won General Weiss as an ally.

What stops you from adding a second Weiss expansion (the model + AT-ST deployment card, not any of the other components). The rules that came with Weiss don't seem to limit you from adding multiple copies of the expansion? Its why the trooper pack, hired guns, and isb infiltrators specifically limit you to number of figures/deployment cards.

So new goal: get 3 AT-STs in one mission

@Felswrath: canyon run is actually not too bad if you have Saska with toolkit. If you do, then you gotta be super unlucky to have trouble with the tests.

I could've sworn that something used the ".. and one of each expansion" qualifier. I might've imagined it.

Explaining Component Limitations to people seems to get more and more complex all the time. (And Weiss is from the first wave 1, so we should've noticed.)

Someone needs up the ante and get the tank in there too. Once we hit threat 5 I may have to shoot for the moon.

Well now I'm really sad. My next mission will be the final mission of twin shadows, which had no exterior tiles.

Does anyone else play the balcony tile from Bespin Gambit as an exterior tile?

Is this explicitly stated somewhere in the rulebooks? I haven't been able to find it.

Keep reading the thread and you see that I imagined it. Each expansion tells how it's integrated, and the General Weiss pack just says to add the deployment cards to the supply, so you could have General Weiss and two AT-ST if you had the threat to deploy them (and get General Weiss from the mission or have won him).

What I said is still true for everything else at the moment.

Gotcha. I should read those expansion inserts more closely, it seems. =)
