I can create another flame war and make it longer if you want
It is actually not too bad a disagreement when it comes down to it.
The whole argument is on the timing of "Before an enemy ship at distance 1-5 resolves the Determine Course step."
Does "resolve" mean completely finishes the step?
or
Does "resolve" mean do or start the step?
Either way, if you run G-8s, make sure you talk with your opponent and tell them before this and you'll be fine.
Yep. For the most part the "argument" is purely academic.
Play with friends, be a good person, and there are no problems with this (or any other) card.
Okay, I hate to necro this one yet again, but I just want to make sure I did this right in my tourney today. I thought we'd reached a conclusion here, but I'm not seeing it spelled out clearly here.
The way I understand it for a normal interaction, if Player 1 is maneuvering and has both a nav dial and token, and Player 2 has G-8:
* P1 finishes shooting, and announces he's moving into the Determine Course Step
* P2 announces whether or not he's using G-8, exhausting it if so
* P1 accomplishes Determine Course Step as normal
- he may spend a nav dial and/or token as he wants
- within the constraints of his maneuver chart as indicated on his speed dial
- he moves one speed slower than that indicated on his dial if G-8 was exhausted
- he uses the maneuver constraints associated with his
effective
--not his
indicated
--speed
This timing appears to be supported, albeit indirectly, by the FAQ:
When this effect is resolved on an enemy
ship and that ship changes its speed dial
during the Determine Course step, the ship’s
speed is temporarily reduced by 1 from the
current speed on its dial.
Indicates that the speed can be changed after coming under the effects of G-8.
This effect can be resolved on an enemy ship
that is executing a maneuver from an effect
such as Engine Techs. This effect is resolved
before the Determine Course step of that
maneuver and reduces the ship’s temporary
speed by 1 to a minimum of 0.
Indicates G-8 is fully resolved before the beginning of the DT step for ET. If that's so, there's no reason to think it wouldn't for a regular maneuver.
Am I correct? Any disagreement?
Correct. No disagreement.
Just note that for ET, the opponent can wait to declare G-8 until before that movement is resolved. But I'm sure you knew that already.
