I seriously doubt the Bounty Hunter book will be the final career book out. My intuition says that it will either be the Mystic (boo ) or the Warrior. They've definitely slowed down the announcement and release rate of Edge books, but to make the Bounty Hunter book last, they'd be waiting at least two more years for Age and Force to get all their other career books out, and that doesn't make much sense.

While I doubt that the Bounty Hunter book will be the last, it'll be a while before we get to it. We're overdue for a Edge sector book and we're REALLY overdue for a canned game. So it will probably be at least two product cycles before one drops.

I get the odd feeling they are just ploughing ahead with the career books now, and I'm not certain we'll see a lot of other stuff, certainly not in the same ratio as we're used to.

It's probably a couple of factors:

What is on the launch pad ready to go. We've seen a couple of playtesters go "X is finally coming out? I worked on that ages ago!", indicating to me that not all writing processes are equal.

The other might be that FFG finally has enough data to go "Well, Career books really sell, but the sector books hardly ping the needle" and have been pushing what will move in the market? Mind you, that one is pure conjecture on my part.

Actually, I'm just old and cynical and have lived through the cancellation of so, so many RPGs I loved. There's an odd 'feel' I get when a much-loved RPG is about to turn up its toes. I had it last when WHFRP3 got canned by Games Workshop killing its own Fantasy line.

I honestly don't think they'll kill this one prematurely - it seems to be doing pretty well for an RPG, the Star Wars licence is huge, even if its a distant fourth after the Card Game, X-wing/Armada, and Imperial Assault.

While I loved the game, I also liked its sane, steady release schedule - frequent enough to keep us interested, not so frequent it becomes pay-to-win like Pathfinder.

But of late it really does feel like the releases have been a bit off. I'm actually happy they are focusing on the career books because 'moar crunch' is what my players want; that stuff is like red meat to a rancor to them.

I vaguely wonder if there might be a '2nd edition', but I rather doubt that because the new movies would have been the most likely place to do that, and they've stated that the Force Awakens boxed set is a one-off.

Especially right now, with the onslaught of new movies about to begin. We're at the Iron Man 1 stage, where the Disneyverse is still ramping up and it feels like just one movie (plus, you know, the seventies and eighties and aughts). Wait until we get to the Doctor Strange stage, where the Money Making Machine is ticking over we get a Star Wars movie every six months.

If WEG can stay afloat pretty much clinging exclusively to the Star Wars life preserver during the Dark Times of the nineties, then FFG surely can when there's a bounty of Star Wars on the market.

I'm soon to start my first FaD rpg with a Shien Expert. I'm SO keen to build a Jack Reacher+Sherlock type character, and this has come just for me!

Oh, it sure did. But at least it was GW's fault, not FFG's.

The FFG stuff was superior to anything GW has done in the last 20 years anyway.

I also have this feeling that FFG will do the last career books during 2017. Maybe, if we are lucky we might also get the third regional book for Edge of the Empire with the usual suspects (Coruscant, Tattooine, Rodia, Ryloth, Kashyyk maybe Mandalore and a few other systems seen in the Clone Wars series). From 2018 and a few years forward FFG will coast along on reprints and a couple of beginner sets and maybe some Free RPG day stuff. The last book from FFG will be a sourcebook on the third trilogy in 2020.

My inner cynic is whispering to me that FFG may want to finish with the career books for these three lines to clear some space in their calendar for future products set in the Sequel trilogy era.

Me neither, by no means. I'd be perfectly happy getting all the cruncy spec books out so everyone gets their 6 specs and signature abilities and can fully plan and customize their characters.

I was just thinking that there's probably a reason why we're seeing so many career books in a row, and no adventures/region books. Unless it's all coincidence, of course.

Well, as for the "glut" of products, do bear in mind that we had a long lag in products being released due to the dock worker's strike on the West Coast last year.

Things are probably starting to normalize now for FFG in terms of product releases, and with three product lines that have had folks working on material for all through last year and this year, we're now seeing a much more steady stream of releases. It's possible that once the last career splat has been released for each product line, we'll see things start to quiet down in terms of releases.

Just an interesting tidbit, but the Force and Destiny Core Rulebook has an adversary called a "Podracer Pilot." An odd thing to have in the book, until you consider this book and the Racer spec. It just so happens, the adversary has four skills: Cool, Mechanics, Piloting (Planetary), and Streetwise, which would all fit well with the Racer, presumably.

I'm not saying anything is for sure, but that is absolutely foreshadowing.

I saw this mention, too, but just presumed that the most iconic heroic podracer was also a force-user...which would make their inclusion in F+D easy. Had not cross-referenced the two racer ideas, though-- GREAT JOB and thanks!

Considering so many character creation suggestions push characteristic increases with XP, delving into talents may take more time. For anyone in a pinch, this option seems playable!

That is what I thought. Though it could just be the way her hair is drawn that makes it look that way.

I didn't see a zeltron in the art. I *did* see what looked to be a Pantoran, though.

Nah. That definitely looks like a Zeltron to me. Female Devronians are covered in fur from the neck down. And, they have been included in the new canon too.

It could indeed be a Zeltron and I agree that their (devaronian) description may say that on wookiepedia, but their depiction in Nexus of Power isn't the same. The picture in Nexus of Power looks similar to this:

Yeah. I know about that character, but her "hairlessness" was an anomalous. And it wasn't just the Wookiepedia who mentioned female Devaronians being covered with hair. This goes all the way back to their WEG descriptions. This (along side a male) is what most female Devaronians were supposed to look like:

Ultimately it doesn't matter whether it is a Devaronian or Zeltron (or a shape shifted Shi'ido!). I'm really looking forward to this book as Sentinel is one of my favorite specs. The pod racers will be cool also.

The only "overlap" of species we've seen between any books has been when one species is shown in a source book or core book from one of the other two games, not from the same base game. Thus, you don't get the same species from two Force and Destiny books, but do sometimes get the same species in a Force and Destiny and an Age of Rebellion or Edge of the Empire book, for example.

Regardless, all of the career books each introduce three new playable species to their core game system, and this book does advertise having three new playable species.

I get what Cimmerianthief is trying to say: the artwork doesn't necessarily mean that the species depicted are in the book, so trying to guess the species that way isn't always useful.

However, a couple of points:

1) No repeat species within lines. So if that lady is a devaronian, then we have no information, because they've already shown up in a F&D book. However, if she isn't, them we may possibly have a clue.

2) Showing off your new toys. While it's a subtle effect, the career books do tend to emphasize the newly introduced species in their art, so you can see them being cool and get ideas for characters. So again, while seeing a particular species still guarantees nothing, it does tip the odds ever so slightly.

3) Proof of existence. If something is shown in the art, that means it exists in the weird pseudo-canon that the FFG books float around in. So if she is a zeltron, that means that there is now a chance that we'll see them in some book or another, because we've received confirmation they exist in the FFGVerse. Might not be this book, but still. Pantorans get the same treatment - we've seen them in a couple places now, I expect we'll get them soon. And in fact, curious note: Savage Spirits was designed to come out after Endless Vigil. Maybe the pantorans are seen in SS because they were already supposed to be playable by the time it got to shelves?

There's a lot about me that's compelling . Most often the compulsion is to run in terror, but every once in a while...

I'm going to attempt to guess one of the species using a combination of intuition, wishful thinking and pure black magic (if I'm right). The Pau'ans. They hit all the more recent highlights for species: unquestionable canon species, prioritized because of their appearance in a film, and they have a well-known Force-using character in fiction (the Grand Inquisitor). Their considerable longevity would add a bit of flair to the species.

Pantorans are a possible second, as they hit most of those same points (canon species, appears in a movie, several notable characters (on being George Lucas himself)), but the roles we see them play seem more Age of Rebellion than Force and Destiny.

I know I said in the Forged in Battle thread that my hypothesis may be sunk with the appearance of the Elomin, but considering a possible sighting of one in The Clone Wars, I'm not super convinced.
