Endless Vigil A Sourcebook for Sentinels!!!

By Hoda25, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

  • Investigator -- Knew it!
  • Sentry -- Fairly logical; I'm curious if it will be a stealth spec; or maybe Investigator will.
  • Racer -- curious, unusual. Car chases are a staple in the kinds of stories that a Sentinel thrives in, so mechanically not out of place. It's just the name is odd.
  • Species -- why have they been so coy about what the species will be lately? Too much negative backlash, probably.
  • That picture of Luke on the cover is unusual for a career book.

Endless Vigil also introduces options for customizing or modifying your lightsaber so that its use may prove less noticeable.

Finally.

Sentinel is a personal favorite.

I'd be down with Zeltrons as a new playable species in this book.

But taking another look at the image (and scaling it up a bit), the female in question has black dots on her forehead, very reminiscent of those found on female Devaronians, especially their newer, fuzzless appearance.

That is what I thought. Though it could just be the way her hair is drawn that makes it look that way.

I didn't see a zeltron in the art. I *did* see what looked to be a Pantoran, though.

Third picture down, right above Urban Adventures. A reddish lady with hair reaching out. She's not a Twi'Lek because of the hair, so...?

Reminds me of a female Devaronian.

Nah. That definitely looks like a Zeltron to me. :D Female Devronians are covered in fur from the neck down. And, they have been included in the new canon too.

Andif you don't know what a Zeltron looks like:

It could indeed be a Zeltron and I agree that their (devaronian) description may say that on wookiepedia, but their depiction in Nexus of Power isn't the same. The picture in Nexus of Power looks similar to this:

Yeah. I know about that character, but her "hairlessness" was an anomalous. And it wasn't just the Wookiepedia who mentioned female Devaronians being covered with hair. This goes all the way back to their WEG descriptions. This (along side a male) is what most female Devaronians were supposed to look like:

It's a good book. Peeps will like it.

Except that's been retconned, and not only after the Disney buyout. Dark Horse were using the non-furry depiction in their comics for almost a decade prior to then.

Yeah, I've got that book somewhere and I think its odd that they decided to change the look so drastically from the previous rpg books. Here is the picture from Nexus of Power p.99:

Ultimately it doesn't matter whether it is a Devaronian or Zeltron (or a shape shifted Shi'ido!). I'm really looking forward to this book as Sentinel is one of my favorite specs. The pod racers will be cool also.

I'm looking forward to this, but two things stand out to me:

1) "And Sentries take crime personally, meeting violence with violence and intimidation." This seems like a retread of the Aggressor's and/or the Warden's role. Hopefully it's distinct enough to feel different while also complementing those two for mixed spec characters.

2) The cover image is of Luke. Why? He's not particularly Sentinel-y IMO, and all other splats so far have had original characters (even if unnamed) on them. I'm not a fan of having Luke on the cover, but this certainly won't stop me from buying it.

The article doesn't mention a new Force power. But if there is one, I hope it is mechu-deru.

Is it bad that I already have a campaign in mind called The Force and the Furious?

No, not in the least :D !

The description for Racer suggests to me that they will be getting various talents that allow them to (re)act in narrow slices of time, perhaps along similar lines to Preemptive Avoidance. It might be nice to get another talent tree that adds vehicle talents without being exclusively focused on piloting/driving.

Does one of the PC's die in a random car crash between Adventures? Too soon? Too soon :(

I am personally under the impression that FFG is not going to take any more species that appear only in the EU, and will mostly feature those seen in the movies or in the cartoon shows, as sad as that may be (so Cathar, Miraluka, Zeltron, among others, are out).

Hopefully enough time has passed that FFG can draw on material featured in Episode VII, although what species that may mean is anyone's guess.

Shortcut and Improved Shortcut? I'm hoping it's more Hotshot and less Driver. Beast Rider was always the odd one out in SoT, but it's definitely got its place in the game. I agree that in this case the abilities of the spec fit here, but the name not so much, nothing else to choose though I guess.

Vehicle chase sequences are pretty common in cop movies and some film noir (Bullit, Lupin III, etc.), which is basically something that Sentinel embraces. Racer fits that concept, but the name is a little funny, although as Richardbuxton says, what else can you call it? Interceptor? Chaser? Especially if it has more general uses like Driver.

I expect Racer will really be "Driver, but with the Force" and honestly, I'm okay with that. It's a cool niche and it sounds like fun, even if it initially seems like an odd fit for Sentinel.

This is the career book for Force and Destiny I've been anticipating the most, so I've got high hopes.

At least Kyuzo.

Being that Sentinel is my favorite career I approve of this book wholeheartedly. Though I was kinda looking forward to another adventure book to be honest.

Also ..... Sentries looks like the spot where the Sentinel will get it's Conflict talent specialization :). Looking forward to seeing what it is.

Edit: Though seriously .....pod racing? pod racing?!?!?!

I thought that was pretty obviously a mirialan. Geometric tattoos on the nose and all. I guess it's not so obvious, then. Then again, I am red-green colorblind. I figured the weird shade was because of the weird light reflecting off her skin.

Anyone else notice what appears to be two different Chiss in the series of photos? I'm too lazy to go through all my books, but have the Chiss been represented yet?

The Chiss are in Enter the Unknown (for Edge of the Empire).

I don't think that's a Chiss. It's likely a Pantoran. Star Wars, honestly, does not have a lack of blue skinned humanoids.

Also Chiss are are in Enter the Unknown for EotE.

I want my EotE character to join F&D.

I want him to be a Guardian/Sentinel.

This is great news!

And it looks like we may be seeing, is it Zeltrons? If so, Marcy should be happy ;) . I know I would be!

It's a nice thought, Phee, but I'm not holding my breath :(

(Although quite honestly, if they fit anywhere, they'd fit here. )

Plus she's wearing far too many clothes to be a Zeltron :P

I'm hoping for Miraluka myself.

You're new here, right?

  • Species -- why have they been so coy about what the species will be lately? Too much negative backlash, probably.

Any 'backlash' is for good reason.

The species for 'Special Modifications' was FFG trolling its own fanbase.

2003 just rang you. It wants its Furries back.

That's my take too, unfortunately (Although we did get Falleen in 'Fly Casual'. Maybe that was before the Disney edict to pretend the EU never existed and Star Wars began in 2008)

Which pretty much dooms us to Chalmun's Cantina & Jabba's Palace species, most of which were designed only as scenery to let Luke know that he wasn't in Kansas any more.

All the more irritating that they've included Arkanians and Pantorans in the adventures. There was even a Pantoran in the art for the Savage Species teaser, which is why it's likely they won't be in this book either, despite teasing us with a picture again.

And WTF with a canon character on the cover? Maybe 'Skywalkers' are now their own separate species like they were in the WEG version :)

Having just googled Miraluka, I immediately want them to be in this now!

And yea, I wouldn't have thought Luke fitted this career at all...
